Church Street in December so pretty

To be honest Champlain College was one of the only schools that seemed to be very interested in my company. So I believed that helped out a lot, I wrote my application essay on an experience I had with starting Rosey Pink. The BYOBiz program is new, this is its 2nd year and to get in I had to apply. How I utilize BYOBiz is I meet up with the Director of the BYOBiz program, Robert Bloch, every week and we think of new ideas, work on problems, talk about marketing and events and anything else we can think of pertaining to furthering Rosey Pink. Another aspect of BYOBiz is that it gets you recognition and introduces you to a lot of important people in the school and community that can potentially help you out. I’ve eaten dinner with the Dean numerous times and have had the opportunity to meet many successful entrepreneurs one on one. This is all thanks to the BYOBiz program. I want to make it clear though that you do not have to already own or run a business. BYOBiz is also for students who have ideas and goals and a drive to reach them. Not all of the members are business majors!

My friends in front of Lake Champlain. really cold day!

When I was 15 and starting this company I knew I wanted to have fun with it. The fact that it would probably help me get into college was good too. I wasn’t really thinking that far ahead than, but business has always been an interest to me because my mom is a business woman and I seem to think a lot like her. My dad’s a lawyer, and now my sister wants to be a lawyer, and she thinks a lot more like my dad. I do have a more creative side that wants to burst out so I have been thinking about also taking some classes geared more towards that as well as my business classes.

Ben- There are definitely a good journalism and writing majors offered here at Champlain, I know quite a few people who are in them. Champlain as well as Burlington really supports new, local writers. Even a book we have for our CORE classes this semester is a book of writing done by Champlain students. I don’t know much about engineering but in my opinion you don’t need to just pick one thing to focus on if everything interests you. Learn as much as you can about whatever you can as long as you’re enjoying it.

Best friend back home and me in front of my Rosey Pink tree!

As far as Saosin goes, I’ve seen them before live and they’re amazing so Gina you should definitely try to make a show sometime. I love live music, it’s one of my passions, I love going to shows and just being in the crowd and listening to the music and coming home dirty, with no voice and a ringing in my ear. Haha. It’s the best.

Champlain is a small private school and the Dean has a very high standard so I guess that makes Champlain College hard to get in to but I think what they look for most is drive. Champlain is full of students who have goals, and want to learn, and are really interested in something. Since there is an upside down curriculum most students come with a major already picked, but you can change it and undeclared is still an option.

If I had to say one down side it would be just how cold it is right now, I’ve been pretty bored because I don’t have a car and I’m too cold to walk. That’s Vermont thought, not just Champlain College. Champlain actually has a lot better driving deal than UVM, freshmen there can’t have cars at all. But yeah, the cold has been getting to me; then again, I’m from Florida. Some people complain about the small size, others love it. It really depends on how you learn and interact. Other than that I’m not a good person to ask about bad things because I’m pretty involved and have honestly really enjoyed my time here.

Just got back from Yoga

So far this semester has been pretty lax. I just got out of yoga class with my friend Amanda. Now I'm just listening to music. All I have been up to lately is tanning, working, homework, and just hanging out. I got a new job at The Shanty on the Shore. It's a really fun, nice seafood restaurant right on Lake Champlain. My best friend works there too as a server, I'm a busser/ hostess. I like it a lot so far, I plan to work there for a while. In March Kerry and I are going to look for an apartment to live for the summer. Yup, I'm staying up. Even though I've been a little homesick lately with all this cold weather, I hope I can get home in the next couple months.
Other than that nothing too exciting, except I'm going to see one of my favorite bands, Saosin, at Higher Ground (local venue) on Thursday. I can't wait!

If you have any questions about Champlain or anything I'm up to or Rosey Pink feel free to comment!

Back to school

I like my schedule so far. Generally the first week of classes isn't too exciting though. I was supposed to get a new roommate but didn't so now I have a pretty sweet single and I pushed the beds together to make one big one. But back to classes, I think that the two business classes I'm taking, Management and Marketing, are definitely going to be beneficial to me and my career.

As far as Rosey Pink goes I have a lot of stuff to do to get it ready. The multi graphics and design majors are going to help me change up my website and I'm going to go to local middle schools and high schools to talk to the students about entrepreneurship as well as get some marketing ideas. So I have quite a lot lined up to do. I put my two weeks in at Abercrombie and Fitch so that I will have more time to focus on school and Rosey Pink and a social life.

My job down at Student Accounts has been going very well. If I haven't already mentioned this I totally recommend getting a work study job, especially at the school. If you are qualified to get one start looking right away because spots fill up fast!

Champlain has a fully equipped gym right on campus that is free for students to go to. I went yesterday and worked out for like an hour and then took a kick boxing class that was offered. Yes that was free too. It was probably the most intense half hour of my life I have had since cheerleading, but I think I'm going to make it a routine to go every week. There is also yoga and ab work outs and hip hop dance classes. Pretty much every type of work out class is offered. I love the gym at Champlain, and there's also a very nice locker room for you to hold all your big coats.

Speaking of big coats, yesterday was the coldest day I have ever gone through. But I made it. I went tanning with Kerry after the work out. :)

Oh, and I visited another state. Last weekend me and a few friends just up and decided we wanted to go to Boston. It is only a 3 hour drive so we went. It was a lot of fun because we got to see one of our friends home town and go to the diner he ate at and all that. I love how close Vermont is to other states.

Well I have Rosey Pink stuff to do, then I'm going to grab some food at the Dining Hall and go to a meeting, then two more classes!

Happy New Year!

By the way, this is my dorm
Photobucket

Hey, sorry been so long. HAPPY NEW YEAR! I've been home for the last couple weeks and to be honest, even thought it is sunny and warm in Tampa, I miss Champlain soo much! I miss all my new friends and everyone at my dorm, and living on my own. I miss that too. So far everyone I have talk to is missing Champlain too. Its awesome that I'm excited about my new classes. The one sad thing is my best friend is no longer my roommate.. But I guess that means I have a single now.
I haven't written anything for a while so a quick catch up, so far I've been to Montreal, New York and Connecticut. My two best friends from home came up to visit me and we had so much fun in the snow. It was a first time for all of us to go sledding and play in the snow. Exams went really well, but i didn't actually have to take any tests so I bet that's why. All in all the end of my first semester in College was amazing and I can't wait to go back. Just for fun I'm going to add some pictures to show you what I've been up to.

Me and My roommate Kerry when I first got here. Were at a park called Red Stone where people jump of cliffs from 20 ft to 70ft into Champlain Lake. I jumped off at around 35.. The water was freezing, to me.

My side of the dorm when I first moved in. It's never that neat anymore!
