What, exactly, am i learning?

So, i had recieved a comment asking what i am learning with a major in business.

Well, i have an answer.
I take an array of classes pertaining to business that are spread throughout the business spectrum. I feel that each semster, the five classes i take all intertwine with each other around one subject. But in each class you learn a different aspect of the subject.

is that confusing? let me try to explain with an example....

This semester i am taking:
World Civilizations 2
Sales
Macroeconomics
Tourism and Event Managment
Project Management

World Civ is one of the required classes... so that one can kind of be kept aside...

we'll start with Sales - in sales i learn about what it takes to be a salesperson, what attributes they have, the ethical dilemas they can be in, How to sell something, how to make money off sales

This intertwines with Macro because in sales you're making your own money and relying on distributors and consumers to fuel the cash flow. In Maco we learn where that money goes, how its measured, how it effects different parts of the world, etc.

Sales and Macro intertwine with Tourism because the amount of tourists to a particular location effects trhe local economy using the multiplier effect and effect the locations GDP etc. Plus, to attract tourists to a specific are or location you have to know how to sell the location. (My marketing class and advertising classes i have previously taken also help with this) if you choise to take this class - take it with jen Colman, she is awesome!

Tourism ties in with project management because Project management teaches us how to organize and plan project charters and work breakdown structures and how to organize large projects and tasks. To plan a tour you need to be able to break the tour down into tasks or events etc.

What i like about the business program, here at Champlain, is that each class build on the others and you can take away from one class and use that knowledge in your other classes. The curriculum really gives you a well rounded knowledge of you major so you can understand it and grasp it from many different angles.

i promise they don't tell me to say this stuff, i really mean it. haha.

Some fun assignements i've had to do in the past two years:
-Create my own business and make a business plan and marketing plan
-Make up my own advertisement featuring me
-Create a Day tour to Boston for 20 College Students
-Plan a wedding and make a project Charter and Work Breakdown Structure
-Create a trip and tour to Australia for 8 30year old women.
-Reconsruct a magazine advertisment using other mag ads
-Pick three stores downtown and make SWOT analysis

and alot more. The projects are really hands on and true to life. It's not alot of busy work like in high school (i.e. read the chapter and write down vocabulary words. ew) We get to go out to different businesses or create our own. Its alot of creative work. it's fun. thats why i'm paying money to come here and still comming!!

My advertisment featuring me:

Oh yeah : i quit smoking!

anyways, new updates in my life:

So, it snowed a bunch here today - we probably got 6-8 inches so far?? It's nuts. The only thing i really hate about snow is the city wide parking bans. But whatever, Champlain students can park their cars in the Gilbane lots. Which is good.

Here's some recent pictures of my friends and i:

me and my friends Turner and Andrew. I have a red punching glove on and punched probably two dozen people in the face at that party. haha (jokingly, of course!)
