Cyber Crime Presentation

Last night (January 28) was a presentation by an Assistant Attorney General who is the Chief of the Cybercrime division in Massachusetts. His primary duty is basically to run the center for discovering digital evidence. It was an interesting presentation to listen to, although we know a great deal of the material as students.

A few of the seniors in the program are actually going to be interviewing for a couple of the open entry level positions. If hired, their duties would include the recovery of digital evidence when the police execute a search warrant. That means being there when the cops break down the door.

I'm personally not sure about what I want to do for a career, I kind of want to go into the private sector and make money, with that comes with a great deal of travel, which I love to do. On the other hand, I like the job security of the government, pension, and not to mention I get to make people shiver when I tell them that I'm from the Government, and I'm here to investigate a crime.

So there are a great deal of benefits and decisions that I still have a great deal of time to make. I just don't deal well with uncertainty. I'll just have to be patient.

Enough of my yammering, have a good one folks!

Vermont3.0

So today is Saturday and it's the day of the Vermont3.0 which essentially is a career fair where local companies come and hire for IT related jobs and show their stuff. I was curious so I went down and took a look. I of course brought my resume and made a couple of contacts that might come in handy in the future.

My dilemma though is that I will be staying up here during the summer and will have the ability to work a full time job in my field of interest. I want a part time job that will allow me the ability to work, but at the same time allow me to keep as active on campus as I am as an RA and such. That is one reason that I quit my IT job this summer. I want to be active on campus and involved with my RA responsibilities.

We will see where things go in the future. By 'we' I mean I, it's the Royal We.

Well, enough of my ramblings. Have a good weekend!

Cheers!

Coolest game I found... AND! Something major related!

Hey all, in my never ending search to entertain myself, I frequently visit a site called addictinggames.com. Well at any rate there's this one game called Untangle, and if you're anything like me, I know I am, you like puzzle games, especially for us forensic types out there. Well here's the link: http://www.addictinggames.com/untangle.html

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

In other news: tomorrow morning I'm going to be participating in a Cyber Terrorism Table Top exercise. This program basically is a scenario where you plan what happens if terrorists decide to attack the United States using the internet. My role will most likely be observation in nature, but it's still cool to put on the resume, and there might be possibilities of meeting potential employers. I loooove events like that. Which reminds me to print my resume as a (just in case measure). But I'm not going to go out of my way and hand out dozens. That's all I have for this evening.

Cheers!

End of the first week

First weeks usually seem to go by slow because you're getting into a new routine. So...the lowdown on my classes: On Mondays and Wednesdays I have Financial Accounting, Modern American Social History and Network Design. Financial Accounting is not as intimidating as it sounds, the professor that I have is really good at teaching it, but she's also really fast and you need to keep up. Then Modern American Social History is kind of interesting, but I feel like I already know a lot about immigration and the history of immigration and the liberties of women. Network design is related to the certificate that I'm going to receive at the end of this semester for Networking, which will hopefully get me a really decent computer networking or help desk job somewhere. So that's the overview of my Mondays.

One cool thing that happened to me this week that doesn't normally happen was when I was walking to the dining hall for dinner, I was walking down one of the side street and I noticed this thing that looked like a stone lawn ornament by a tree. At that moment I was in front of the UVM Admissions Office and I was curious why they had a lawn ornament, let alone one that was so small, but as I got closer, whatever it was moved. It kind of hopped. At this point I was about 20 feet away and I realized that it was a barn owl. I just stood there and looked at it. The owl too looked back and I tried taking a picture with my cell phone, but that failed miserably. Then it flew up to one of the trees on the left hand side of the sidewalk and sat there for another minute before flying away again. I thought this was incredibly cool because I don't see owls everyday and it was amazing to me to see a creature of such grace. Can't you tell I like nature?

Anyway, I'll have some new material for y'all later this week. Good luck with your school choices, exams, tests...etc.

Cheers!

Happy New Year!

Hey all, so the holiday season has treated me well, how about you? Anyway, I'm typing this on my new laptop (not like I'm bragging). Anyway, I can't wait to start the new semester. As much as I like to be home I like to be in school and be busy. I need to be busy, either learning or working. I like waking up in the morning and seeing my friends. I'm almost not looking forward to graduating next year because I like being in school. It's nice seeing your friends all the time. That's the nice thing about college life, having the freedom to almost do what you want (within reason) and having only to answer to yourself, but be responsible. You can tell I'm an RA huh? Anyway it's a slow news week I'll get back to you when classes start (the 8th).

Cheers!
