To bed with no dinner: A dissapointing e3

Wow, what happened this year? E3 was a flop. A major flop. It's been such a disappointment! There were a couple of good smatterings here and there. The new prince of persia is amazing, if you haven't checked it out you should:

As for the game we've been working on, it's been going along very well. Auston's been doing his programmin' deal:

And Peavey's art has come along swimmingly.

We actually managed to pump out an alpha a while back. Pretty cool. One of our professors actually worked for X-play at one point, so he gave us the professional treatment. Here is auston playing the alpha:

I'm still working on the whole "Making Do" thing. I'm trying not to buy anything commercial or unnecessary, so only food, clothes and medicine. I find myself indulging in things like candy and such more often, but I'm still doing really well. I've managed to save a ton of money, but I might not get to do fun stuff like go see the midnight release of Batman tonight. I guess its OK though, because its always best to see films with friends. Spinner has a really nice 1080p TV in its lounge. The guys and I hang out there a ton.

I'll try and post again some time this weekend. My friends and I are having a little maya fest this weekend back at the school. I'll definitely be blogging about that.

See you soon!

Can a gamer make do?

This may come across as old news for many people, but i heard about a program this British guy did called "Making Do". Throughout the entire year of 2007, he decided that he would not purchase any consumer products. None. I started thinking about that, and whether or not a gamer like myself could do the same.

Crazy when you think about it. That means no games, consoles MP3 players, books, DVDs movies, nada, nothing. Not one thing to watch or do. Something about that simply comes off as insane to me. I'm not sure if i could do it. I'm considering the following:

Wizards of the coast produced the new 4th edition of dungeons and dragons, which means all these new books will be coming out. Its a new system, and a new rule set, so you can imagine the wealth of books to be released soon.

Fallout 3, Fable 2, Rock band 2, Viva Pinata 2, Street Fighter 4, Braid are all coming out soon. The Batman movie came out, Hulk and Ironman are in theaters (neither of which I have seen), and then there's concerts! Flowbots are coming up to Burlington, MC Frontalot is supposed to go on tour in the winter season, and E3 hasn't even gone through yet. You can imagine the wellspring of games about to be announced.

Could I do it? I mean really, could I? No games, no books, no nothing...I'm really curious. Oh, and then there's his book:

I'd have to not buy that too XP.

But I'm curious if I'm capable. I think I'll give it a shot and not buy anything all of July, just to see how it goes.

I mean there's always the internet. You can get a lot of stuff for free there, and easily too. I mean, not illegally of course but...You know what I mean.

But then there's the big question of "Is it worth it"? It's important for me to keep up on tech, gaming and media. I like movies, I like games. Is it OK if I rent movies? or games? or anything? What about entertaining foods? non-necessity foods? Like Mountain dew, or Oreos?

I think I'll give it a shot this month. See what happens. Maybe I'll blog about it.
