The Genesis
All the frenzy that accompanied SAT, TOEFL, Applications, Couriers, Admissions, Admission Decisions came to a partial end when I got an acceptance to ERAU on Feb 24,2008 with a good amount of scholarship that assisted me in ways more than I can write. However, the complete end came today after I attended the first college class of my life. The first class of MATLAB made me say “This is precisely what I need to do, and this is the place if one needs to fly, make people fly or learn how things fly”.
After a 2 day long journey I landed in US on July 29, 2008 at Oklahoma City. Though I was not at college for around 20 days, ERAU always assisted me in everything from Housing, Immunization and Credit transfer. My first day at ERAU commenced on 19th August and till date I have clicked more than 200 pictures. The campus is awesome! One needs to be at the campus in order to witness it. The faculty, staff, students and everyone is really cooperating and helpful. I have come across so many instances where people here have left their work in order to assist the freshmen. For the international students, we had a lot of activities especially planned out for us. Breakfast used to be at CIPS Office for the first two days. We also had a really great trip to the downtown and Walmart to get our utilities, stationery and all other necessary requirements. The members of the International Ambassadors Program also came along with us and helped us out..just another instance that people here are awesome. We also had a dinner at the Sprunce Hall where we got to meet the Chancellor, David Hall and the Dean of Students, James D. Kula along with many teachers.
The next day was the student Check-In. Everyone got free ERAU T-Shirts. We also had a meeting for AE students where almost all the AE professors introduced themselves. They also discussed about their projects and said that they would be happy to include interested and talented students in the project-just another instance that people here are really helpful and co-operating. On Sunday, the Commencement took place with Dean and the officials of the university wearing a gown, symbolizing the true values of ERAU education. It was followed by a concert by The Feds at the Davis Learning Center and the One Ton Sundae…which basically meant lots of free ice creams.
Today, my classes started with MATLAB and my instructor was Prof. J.Post. It’s my first class at ERAU and I am already studying the strongest industrial computer programming. The best thing I liked about classes was the way that professor wanted us to participate in the lecture and get more involved with MATLAB. The next classes were Physics and Calculus. The Math class started with a huge slide show displaying all the big events related to aerospace engineering. Physics was a class that started with the basic classes: Units, Measurements, and Vectors.
Before I forget, we do have homework today. Getting a degree from ERAU is not at all easy. One needs to be updated about everything that is occurring in the college and the aerospace industry. Here, everyone has access to professors who are always ready to help out every student in academics, project works, internships, co-ops or job applications. We have their support all the time and they make it very clear every time.
To end, here is a thought that our Calculus Professor Mike Topper used in his slide show, “Some people make things happen, some watch things happen while some wonder what has happened.Where do you plan to be?”
