About myself (redux)
I just realized that I haven’t really told you much about myself. Better late than never, I suppose! As I mentioned in my first post, I was born in Hong Kong and I spent my first sixteen years there, leaving in 1998 for the cold and rainy climes of England. I went to boarding school at Epsom College in Surrey, completing my A-levels in English, Math and German. After this, I attended University College London, picking up an undergraduate law degree (LLB) there; then I moved out to the leafy suburbs of Middlesex and did a BA in Theology, Music and Worship at the London School of Theology. Two years ago, in the summer of 2006, I applied to and was accepted to do the MDiv at Fuller, and I made the journey from rain to sunshine.
I started out in the Master of Divinity program, because I thought that I would be going into church ministry. And I still do, in some capacity. During my first year and a half at Fuller, God prodded me and nudged me in various ways and by various means, and in the process, I realized that full-time church ministry was not what he was calling me to. I still see myself helping out in a church context, whether it’s in mentoring or discipling or leading a small group or leading worship or teaching; but my passion is to be among non-Christians, whatever I end up doing. Moreover, over the last year or so, my heart for justice—especially at a macro level—was developing, and so in January of this year, I switched to the dual MA in Theology and Cross-Cultural Studies. As of the end of the summer quarter (September), I’ve completed my MAT requirements, so I’ve got just under a year to go until I’m done at Fuller (if everything goes according to plan!).
And as for what’s coming after Fuller? I’ve still got time, don’t rush me. ☺
