God of the Oppressed
One of the best parts of coming to Fuller is that I have been exposed to several theologies that are very different then the Mennonite tradition in which I was raised. This weekend, for example, I am reading through "God of the Oppressed" by James H. Cone. Growing up on a farm in the southern San Joaquin Valley did not bring me into contact with much Black Theology. Having spent some time working with people living in poverty and under one form of oppression or another, however, has given me a lens in which I think I am able to understand Cone's perspective. It is good to know that our God is on the side of the oppressed and is working for their liberation.
I have been spending a lot of time at the books this weekend because it will be one of the few this quarter where I will actually be in Pasadena. Of course, in half an hour I am going to be stopping to play some soccer with a bunch of other Fuller students. It rained last night, so the grass at Victory Park should be nice and soft!
