Community and Football

Although I am feeling slightly overwhelmed with the prospect of nearly a hundred pages of writing looming in the near future, I was still able to enjoy a weekend of basketball, soccer, and watching football. This past weekend was the first that I was able to spend in Pasadena in several weeks. It was good to jump back into the routine.

Saturday morning several of my fellow Mennonites and I joined together to play some basketball. As usual that proved to be one of the best ways for me to relax. It seems that a couple weeks of not exercising has made me a little antsy and so it was good for me to work up a good sweat. When I got home I found several community members over at our apartment (that is actually pretty normal) watching college football. After a few hours of football several of the guys and I went over to Villa Park for our normal dose of Saturday afternoon soccer (or football as the rest of the world calls it).

Finally, after church on Sunday was the big game between the Colts and Patriots. Naturally several people, about fifteen, gathered to watch the game. I live in an intentional community, and we are intentional about eating together. Outside of food, however, nothing brings a big group together quite like a big football game.
