EAS and Honors College

So it's been pretty busy the past couple of weeks here in the office. All of your applications are pouring in and the deadline to apply to the Endowed Academic Scholarship and the Honors College recently passed on January 16th. We have been busy reading essays and deciding who will be invited for a interview. It's exciting for us but also a very tough decision. Both programs are wonderful opportunities for incoming freshmen.
The Endowed Academic Scholarship (EAS) is a $15,000 or $20,000/year for 4 years award. You must meet certain test score requirements and submit an application, essay, letters of recommendation, and resume. It is an amazing gift (relief) for those who receive it.
The Honors College is a brand new program that we just started offering this past fall. It's a unique opportunity in that it is a completely different set of core classes. It's interdisciplinary so it combines several areas of study in one. For example some of the classes offered include "Imagining the Future: Themes and Ideas in Science" and "Exploring Cultures through Art and Music".
I would highly encourage you to look into these programs. The EAS deadline has passed but I hear Honor's College is still accepting applications but act FAST! I've included links below to learn more about both programs. I would also recommend checking out Daniel's blog since he's a member of the Honors College. I'll let you how it goes but keep sending in your applications to HBU!

Presidential

President%20blog.jpg
Everyone's all abuzz about the new President of the United States, and with good reason. It is great to feel like you're alive during a historical time in our nation's history. But, I want to tell you a little story about our University President, Dr. Sloan. I ran into him yesterday on campus and had a conversation with him. It went a little something like this...
Dr. Sloan: "How's your little boy?"
Me: "Great, running around like a crazy kid"
Dr. Sloan: "He's about 18 months now, huh?"
Me: "Yep, 18 months, just starting to talk"
We proceeded to talk about how much he is talking, what words he knows and how his grandson is doing, who is the same age. It was a pretty normal conversation, until you realize that I was talking to the president of the university. I am one of over 300 faculty/staff members on our campus and he remembers important facts about my life. As I was discussing this conversation with other students and staff members on campus, I found that their experiences were similar. He takes the time to get to know people, as much as he can in his hectic schedule. It's just a little anecdote to show how personal HBU is, starting at the top!
