It's Raining Gators at HBU!

Hey guys! It's me, Chelsea. I am the animal lover of the admissions group! Don't get me wrong, all of us love animals, but I take it to a whole other level. If you live in Houston, you know that it rained like crazy yesterday!!! Just about all of Houston was flooded. HBU got a lot of water and even started classes a little later in the day for everyone's safety.
While we were all doing our best to "swim" to work and school yesterday, we had 2 new visitors to the HBU campus...2 alligators! We think they came in from a drainage pipe.
They now call Husky Pond their new home...at least for today! All of the admissions counselors went out this morning to welcome them to campus. They kept poking their heads out of the water, but were very shy and wouldn't stay there for long.
Hope you are having a great week. See you later, alligator!

Getting to know "the Bible"
Sarah Bible, that is! I'm Director of Recruitment here at HBU. I married into the last name, so I think it's pretty cool!

Hometown:
I grew up in Greenwood, Arkansas, but I've lived in Houston (or the general vicinity) for the last 16 years or so.
Hobbies:
I have a little boy who's almost two, so he occupies much of my time, but in my spare time I like to knit, sew, quilt and do just about anything else crafty. I'm also trying my hand at growing a vegetable garden this year!
Interesting Facts:
1. I'm big on tradition. My mom passed this on to me. Holidays were a big deal growing up. One tradition that I carry on is giving the kiddo something in his Easter basket that stays with the basket and becomes Easter decoration each year. This year, he got a pretty stone egg that matches one I got when I was a kid.
2. I love music, I'm just not very skilled at creating it myself, so I enjoy listening to others. I have tried my hand at guitar, clarinet and piano, but none of them really stuck.
3. I did win my 6th and 7th grade talent shows with my singing numbers. Now, I hardly ever sing in public.
4. I think I may be one of the few of my friends who still watches (and loves) Grey's Anatomy.
5. I'm a hopeless fan of reality television, everything from Survivor to the Bachelor. I realize that they aren't "reality", but I'm still hooked!

Summer is almost here!!!
As the school year comes to an end we all dread the wonderful week of FINALS!! In this post I just wanted to take a moment to talk about a few ways to help keep the stress down as we prepare for finals. I know the final stretch can be hard but Summer is almost here and you will have plenty of time to do what you want!
Ways to help decrease stress and not get too worn out during the last few weeks of school:
- Workout: if you need a break from studying, try hitting up the gym or going for a walk or run. This is a great way to clear your mind and just have some alone time.
- Sleep: Make sure you are getting plenty of sleep at night before the test. Manage your time to where you can get all of your studying in before bedtime and not have to stay up all night. If you need extra time, try getting up a little early than you usually do and that should help you have some rest.
- Eat Properly: While you are studying make sure you are eating lunch or dinner and not just eating junk. Most junk food makes you more tired and doesn't help fuel the brain.
Well GOOD LUCK to all of you out there getting ready for finals and we look forward to seeing you at SOAR 2009 if you are a Future Husky!!

Preview Weekend
Well...Preview Weekend was a success!!
As those of you who live in Houston know, there were torrential downpours for Friday afternoon/evening and most all of Saturday. Not exactly the perfect weather for Spring Preview...but I think everyone had fun despite the rain!
Friday night we cheered on the Volleyball team against Lee College - and WON! Afterwards, BYX Island Party was a hit with great music and Comedy Sportz Improv Group.
It was so great to meet a lot of our prospective students - can't wait to see y'all in the Fall!
and P.S. - A BIG thanks to all of our Husky Ambassadors for lots of hard work!

Easter Egg Hunt 2009
One of my favorite things about being a part of the HBU Community is that it is very much like a family. This weekend I got to share a first with the folks at HBU, my son's first Easter Egg Hunt. Saturday was the First Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at the Hinton House. The Hinton House was the home of our first president and now houses our Alumni & Advancement offices. The Student Foundation was there to help coordinate the whole thing!

Daren & Rebekah were there to greet us.

The kiddo had a lot of fun looking for eggs in the back yard.

He wasn't quite sure what to think of the ears that Lisa let him borrow...

...so she showed him how they should be worn!
Overall, it was a lot of fun and a memorable event for the young and the young at heart!
