Something Interesting About Me: I was on a kids game show when I was a kid.
Why I Chose HBU: I chose HBU because I wanted a small Christian University that was not too far from home. I knew HBU was far enough for me to get away and enjoy college. When I walked on campus everyone was so open, warm, and friendly, and I knew HBU was a great fit for my life.

Homecoming 2009

Soooo last weekend was homecoming and during the week of we had a TON of homecoming festivities. It was such a blast...I seriously love homecoming. It's always so great to see all of the alums come back and still get excited about HBU. That's going to be me next year!!! :O *tear* lol oh how time flies!!!

Anyway the order of homecoming events basically goes like this...

On Monday, we had a campus luncheon and the banner bash. Banner bash is where all of the organizations compete in making banners for the basketball game. Usually they're like big giant crash posters that we hang on the wall, that talk about how we're going to beat the other team ;) This year, we won SECOND place in banner bash! Woo, go AXO!

Wednesday was Homecoming Convo which is basically a HUGE pep rally. That was a blast. That's also where they announce the winners of the freshman, sophomore, and junior homecoming court, with the senior finalists. I'm proud to announce that two of my sisters won the title for their classification. Ashley Kiker was the 2009 Freshman Lady, and Joanna Gabb was the 2009 Sophomore Countess.

On Thursday we have something called Org Battle. That's where all of the organizations get together and compete in different games. There's obstacle courses, trivia quizzes, races, balloon tosses, etc. That was fun. We came in SECOND place for that too! ;) Tore it up on that quiz! hahaha

Later that night there was a volleyball game and it was cool to see everyone come out and support the team. One of my sisters, Courtney is our Libero...she's a beast! It was sooo much fun to cheer her on. We made posters and everything! ;)

Friday we brought back the tradition of the HBU Bonfire! That was fun even though I got bit by a BUNCH of mosquitos. Hahah. I was talking to the firemen out there and they said that they recorded temperatures of 2000 degrees!!! Whoa dang, that's SOOO HOTTTT! It was a blast though! Then later that night was the homecoming dance. It was good to have fun and dance with my sisters and friends...we had a DJ for KRBE! :)

Saturday was the BUSIEST day of all! We started out the morning with the Husky Hustle 5K (at 8 AM--i should get a medal simply for waking up that early!) That afternoon we had the Annual Chili Cook Off. Once again, it's another organization competition to see who makes the best chili, who has the best presentation, most spirit, etc. This year, Alpha Chi Omega won MOST SPIRITED and BEST in SHOW! :) It was a blast!! Plus this year, my parents were able to attend since they came down for the basketball game!

Finally, Saturday night we had the actual Homecoming Game! That was soo much fun! We played University of the Ozarks and won BIG TIME. The Homecoming King and Queen were announced and that was pretty awesome! ;)

Here are a few pics from the week!

All-Campus Service Day!!

Hey Y'all!!

So this past Saturday HBU had it's fall All-Campus Service Day. Basically it is an opportunity for students on campus to get involved and serve within the community. It was a GREAT turn-out, over 300 students showed up to participate. There were freshman year seminar (FYS) groups and other campus organizations that had signed up to volunteer. I signed up with A-Chi-O to participate.

We went to the YMCA with the Lion's Club and HSO to play with kids and clean up. It was so much fun and the weather outside was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!!! At first, we were mainly cleaning because there weren't very many kids there. We cleaned the playground equipment and organized their indoor games. I put 5 puzzles back together...it was quite an accomplishment! ;)

Slowly the kids started to trickle in though. I met this little boy named Kevin, and we raced like 10 times. I was on foot, and he was on a bike. He beat me 9 out of those 10 times!! (Let's just say I let him win lol) Then we met some little girls on the swings--Cassandra, Alynn, and Alejandra. Cassandra and Alejandra were sisters and they could swing SO high! Cassandra tried to teach me how to jump off the swing, but I couldn't do it. Isn't that sad? A 21 year old college student too afraid to jump off a swing, when a 9 year old girl is flying high! HAHA.

All in all it was a very productive and fun day. The kids are so unbelievably sweet and just love to play and hang out with us. Everytime I go to the YMCA, I always leave feeling blessed. Y'all should definitely check it out sometime!!

Here are a couple pics of us at the Y!

GLEE!!

GLEE%21.jpg

One word. GLEE. What is it some may ask? My answer, perhaps one of the greatest shows to come on tv since Friends. Glee is a comedic satire that brings the light to what glee club is about. It is HILARIOUS!!

Basically the show follows several teenagers who are going through high school unnoticed and deemed "weird" by their peers for being talented and nerdy. The only kids in glee club at first are weird, but then gradually more of the "popular" kids eventually join. Glee finds a way to address some of the issues that kids really do face in high school, but at the same time it finds a way to include dry humor and good music.

Let's just talk about the music for a moment....can we say AMAZING? LIFE-CHANGING?! Hahaha, I literally have downloaded the music before the new episodes premiere so that I'm jamming out when I watch the show! Ha! Let's see, they've done "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, they've done "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood. They've also performed "Somebody to Love" by Queen as well as "Hate On Me" by Jill Scott. The football players did Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance as well and that was just fabulous! HAHA!

Glee is overtaking HBU too. I've seen people with their own glee shirts, I hear kids singing the songs across campus. Yes, I am one of them ;) It's really cool to talk to my friends as well as other people about what's been happening on the show. Oh you can't even imagine how EXCITED we were when kristin chenoweth appeared on the show! I almost fell out of my seat! Next up, I'm waiting for Idina!!! :)

Anyway, Glee is definitely amazing. If you haven't seen it, you really should check it out!

Make it a great week!!

LOL It's really nice to have a place to go study where you can chat with your friends...especially when you're working on a project or something like that, and the Baugh is the perfect place to go!

Wait, since when did homework become cool??!

Soooooo,

This past week I have been so swamped with homework. It's making my head spin. For instance, I'm starting to confuse my schedule. Have you ever done that before? In retrospect, it's actually pretty funny.

I do have to say though that I am enjoying what I am learning, and therefore even though I'm stressed about deadlines and all that jazz I can appreciate the goodness of the work. Shhh, don't tell my professors. HAHA! One of the coolest things about school is when the material you are learning in your classes overlap or if you can make the correlations on your own. I LOVE when that happens in my class. Or it's also pretty sweet when you can apply what you learn in your class lectures to your everday life. I'm taking this Political Science course called Ancient and Medieval Political Thought (with Dr. Hammons, one of my FAVORITE professors here at HBU--and no, that's not for extra credit just in case he's reading this...he's actually really legit), but anyway we discuss about how the Ancient Greeks viewed politics and life and I can honestly say that the things I learn in that class I examine my own life with. My friend Christa and I will be talking about random things--boys, work, shopping, whatever...and somehow we find ourselves applying what we learned in Dr. Hammons lectures. It's funny. We catch ourselves saying "it's like Dr. Hammons said in class today.." LOL.

Does that make me a huge nerd? Frankly, I don't care :) The whole point of school is to learn and if I'm loving it...isn't that even more towards my benefit??

That's what I thought. ;) Keep up the good work, strive for excellence, and I hope to see you at HBU one day!!

Make it a great week!!

futbol de las chicas

Yesterday I went to the HBU Women's soccer game. We played Texas Women's University and won!! (2-0) The girls played sooo well! It was awesome to see such great effort...ya'll are lookin good this year ladies! ;) We finally have new bleachers up so it was cool to sit in those and watch the game in them. I'm not gonna lie though, I do kind of miss being right on the edge of the field in the action of the game. We have lights at the soccer field now too!! I'm sooo excited for night games! Those are gonna be amazing!! :) :) I'm really proud of the way the team played yesterday. I'm so proud to be a HUSKY!

So anyway this weekend i have a TON of hw! Expect me to be studying my life away!! LOL

THIRD COAST! :)

Hello World!! :)

It's so great to be back at school!! Seo much has happened since then!! It's going to be an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G year, and I am so super excited!!! :)

So this past Friday, one of the fraternities here on campus, Alpha Pi Kappa (A Pi K) hosted their annual party, Third Coast. It's a place with a TON of sand volleyball courts, and A Pi K always rents a few and invites everyone from HBU out for food and fun! This last weekend, several sisters and I went to hang out and we had a BLAST! We played volleyball (obviously, ha), ate good food, and had a wonderful time of fellowship with some pretty cool people.

It's awesome because alot of the A Pi K alums come and show support, and hang out and play as well. It's always so good to see HBU family still connected even when they've gone and graduated. (That's gonna be me soon!!! *TEAR*)

Just so yall know some guys were talking trash about how they were going to beat us (Aaron Bridwell *cough, cough*), but we showed them what was up! ;) Haha it was so much fun!!! To everyone who missed out, you BETTER be there next year!!!! :D

Here's a couple pics of me and the girls all sandied up after Third Coast was over.

Anyways make it a great week!! Get involved, and don't miss an opportunity to make new friends!
