Favorite Quote: "Let it Be." The Beatles
Something Interesting About Me: I was born in California, raised in New York, and now live in Texas! It's
a triangle!!! I also play a bit of guitar in my free time.
Why I Chose HBU: I choose HBU primarily because of the friendly and cozy atmosphere. I like how I'm not
just a number here to the professors. There is a nice interaction between students and teachers as most class
sizes consist only of around 25 people. The people down here are also sooo much nicer than any other universities
that i visited while I was in Texas.

Homecoming: Rock the Night Away!
During homecoming week there were many events that were going on to celebrate our husky pride. Come Friday night, we were approaching the climax of Homecoming week. That right, what better way to celebrate homecoming than to attend the HBU Homecoming Dance?
We arrived at the scene of the dance ready to shake what our mama gave us! The DJ rolled out the hits and we were obliged to dance it out! it was a what i like to call a blasty blast. The admission was 2 canned goods (that would be donated to the houston food bank) or $3.00. Not to shabby for a night of fun and dancing.
I would have taken more pics, but i myself was hitting the dance floor pretty hard so I apologize. Here are some the pics that i did take!!!

This past wek here at HBU we had our Homecoming week. It was an intense week of husky spirit, battles, and fun. During homecoming, all the organization's on campus, spanning from the cultural organizations, to the fraternities and sororities take part in the battle!
During the org battle, their are various events and battles that occur in order to gain points for their organization battle. Spanning from going to events to actual games, this battle was on like donkey kong!
It was a blasty blast. I was repping several organizations cuz i'm a busy body like that! El OH EL. I represented for FSA, Lions Club and HSO! We had to combine forces in order to tackle the huge fraternities and sororities on campus. We didn't win, but we all had a blasty blast participating

YMCA
Every Wednesday HSO (hispanic student association) has been volunteering at the local YMCA to play with the kids and to help them with their homework and such. Recently the HBU lions club has been riding shotgun with HSO and has started volunteering as well.
Yesterday the Y had a haloween party that we threw for the kids. We brought vampire teeth, facepaint and cupcakes! I made those cupcakes the night before, and by the end of the haloween party they were gone, so yeah, they were pretty good cupcakes! lol. anyways... We played with the kids and many people got their faces painted. It was a lot of fun, and if you like playing with kids (and you are somewhat fluent in spanish) you should definetly come and join us!!!

On October 12th 2009, the Husky Ambassadors were invited for a dinner presidents house with Mr and Mrs. Sloan! It was a night filled with whimsicalities, formalities, and mountinous taco salad!
The Ambassadors as you may or may not know are the young upstanding guys and gals that give tours to prespective students during the school year. We also help out the admissions counsellors druing the sneak preview weekends when prespectives come and visit our school and stay over a night.
The Sloans we gracious enough to invite us over for dinner, discussion and dessert! And Dessert was AMAZING!!! It was muchas fun and i hope to visit there for dinner again!!!

Looking to get ripped? Looking to lose some weight? looking to get those washboard abs you've always wanted? well look no further, I have just the thing for you! I'm not selling any miracle product, what i'm selling is honest to god, good old fashioned hard work and determintation!!!
On Monday and Wednesday's at 7pm in the lakehouse fitness room, Carlos Soto, a student at the university, who is a kineseology and pedigoy major teaches a fitness and toning class!
It. Is. Intense. It's not ure walk in the park, but it is a lot of fun.
Carlos sets the mood right by having the eye of the tiger and other encouraging music playing (90's R&B is often in the mix! lol) and you do the work outs together with carlos and it is a workout!
Monday is usually lower body, and Wednesday is upper body! I know look forward to Carlos' encouraging words of "COME ON" or "Ignore the Pain" on monday and wednesday! I highly recomend this free fitness class!!!

It's that time of year again folks. It's tour season and the Husky Ambassadors are once again called to action! On October 2nd and 3rd we had a pletheroa of highschool students come and tour the campus and stay over night. It was a night filled whimsical fun, karaoke, and comedy sportz!
The night events proceeded with the prespective students checking into their rooms and getting dinner. Then the fun began. Comedy Sportz, and improv comedy group, a regular at HBU came by and made us laugh till we cried!
After Comedy Sportz, to the roof of the lakehouse we went. Where the blue dawg lounge was set up to provide karaoke for the people. It was muchas fun for current and prespective studnets alike.
The next preview is gonna be during the spring semester, so if there are any presepective students who want to get a feel for the HBU campus, definetly sign up for the next preview!

As always, a photo shoot with our very own Husky, Kiza!

HBU Lions Club Charter night! CARPE DIEM
Lions Club International. The largest international service organization in the world! WIth over 1.3 million members and growing, Lions Club has hit the HBU campus like a fever. A fever, with the only prescription being more cowbell... wait that's not right, the only prescription is more service!!! (forgive my sad attempt at humor)
Anyways, HBULC (Houston Baptist University Lions Club) which is now in its first full year of being a club has just recently been chartered. Meaning we have joined the ranks of thousands of other districts and other Lions as part of one of the greatest service oraganization.
On October 3rd Dignitaries, Lions, and Students gatherd as HBU became part of something much bigger than itself. With the Distcit Governor Chuck Martin, as well as many other dignitaries, HBU was welcomed to the world of lionism.
The theme of the Night was simple... CARPE DIEM!!! or "Sieze the Day" something that may of us forget to do! HOw many times in our lives do we become complacent, and are just content with going along with the flow of our lives. Where in reality there is so much more we can be doing with our lives As lucky as we are, we have the resources to make a difference in the lives less fortunate than us! With an inspiring speech by Lion Trish WIlson (a counselor at the Texas Lions Camp )
I was the Master of Ceramonies for the event (much to my surprise) so unfortunately i was unable to take pictures, however i did get pics of the dancing that ensued afterwards!

Blink Is back, ALRIGHT!!!
So Last Thursday, i had one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was one in which i did not think i would be able experience ever, in lieu of certain events. I don't know if any of y'all are getting what i'm hinting at, but last thursday i saw BLINK-182 LIVE!!!!!
For those of you that don't know Blink-182, the pop punk band founded in 1992, went on an indefinate hiatus in 2005. This marked a period of sadness and depression in the music world, that would only be lifted when in 2009, at the grammy's, Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Baeker announced that they were getting back together and going on tour! Yes it was a day of much joy for the world.
But I digress. The show at the Woodlands Pavillion was INSANE!!! Not only was Blink-182 there (which i would have gone to see if it were only them), but Fall Out Boy, The All-American Rejects, and Asher Roth(The guy who sang "College"), were all there playing a set as well!!!. This may very well have been the greatest concert i have and ever will have attended, in my life.
Every band put on an incredible show. A personal highlight was when Fall Out Boy covered Journey's "Don't Stop Believing". It was at this point, that i reached a state of Nirvana like i had never reached before. Another highlight was when Travis Barker performed a 7 minute drum solo... WHILE FLYING!!! i can't describe it. it was amazing!!! To even this date, i still relive the concert in my head!
-Sigh- Long live Blnk!!!

Filipino Student Association Take 2!!!
The Filipino Student Association (aka FSA) is in full swing nowadays as it enters it's second year here at Houston Baptist University. This year, yours truly (that's me) is the President and imma trying to keep it real! kna what i'm sayin'??? lol just kidding, but seriously, im trying to bust out all the stops and make this year the best year it can be!
You may be wondering "Stacy, what's the deal With FSA" or "I'm not filipino, so why should i be interested" and yada yada yada. Well my friend, have i got a deal for you!!! Well not a deal but an explanation rathar.
FSA is a social organization dedicated to spreading the filipino culture to the student body, while having a blasty blast in doing so! You don't have to be filipino to join, as we are trying to spread our cultre to those who may not know too much about it, and to celebrate those who are very well acclamated to the culture.
On September 11th we had our first mixer on the Roof of the lakehouse and i don't want to brag or anything, but it "off the chain!!!" can i say that? lol well it was a blasty blast in opinion. We had a lot of food ranging from steak and lumpia shanghai (egg rolls) all the way to filipino spaghetti! we even had a halo-halo (filipino dessert) station!
After we ate we started up the party. FSA's and my own's good friend Jay Cooper hit up the DJ station for us and we began the dance club party on the roof. We opened up the song "September" by earth wind and fire. And with that the line dancing began! cuz it wouldn't be filipino party unelss there was line dancing action! we dance the night away! It was good times all around!!!!
If anyone is interested to learn more about FSA then by all means leave a comment, or if you're a student, then stop by! our meetings are every other friday at 11am in Mabee theater!!! our next meeting is this September 25th! Hope to see y'all there!!!

It's not a dance party till u do the Macarena!!!

A new school year, new freshman, new classification, Same ol' stacy!
So another year has begun here at HBU. For me, it is my senior year, and I'm pretty excited. Though i am a senior this is not my final year at HBU. I'll be here for an aditional semester. THe Conversion from a quarter system to a semester system kinda messed me up, and since i'm continuing to double major in Biology and Psycology, I need to take another semester to graduate with the double degree.
But anyways, enough about me.The new freshman class is a lot of fun. Welcome Days 2009 was a blasty blast. Perhaps our biggest freshman orientation the school has yet to have seen, and it was great! From various ice breakers to service projects, to some pool party action, welcome days kicked off with a splash.
And of course no welcome days would be complete without the faitful pack leaders and mushers, Merdith Haynes the student life intern and the Student Programming Board did an amazing job organizing welcome days! It was pretty sweet!
They even had our band "Check Back" play at the event as some dinner music! it was good times all around!
