"In the great state of Texas, Houston, USA..."
Well, friends... It is hard to believe that the 2nd week of my 2nd semester of college has already come to an end. I have come to the conclusion that life is just a mere "blip" on the radar screen of eternity, and I have such a short time to accomplish the many ambitions I have in changing the world.... Wow, so I just read that sentence again and realized it was slightly profound. Awesome. Anyways, well I love my classes so far and the professors that teach them. They all have their little quirks and styles that make each class have it's own little flair. Now, to all you high schoolers out there that are reading this (especially if you're a senior) and are either A.) Coming here or B.) Thinking very strongly about coming here... I'm going to tell you this one thing: Houston Baptist University is an amazing school full of opportunities for every type of student. HBU is for the scholar, the musician, the athlete, the artist, the fun-lover, the book-worm, the social butterfly, or mixtures of the above mentioned! HBU has served me in every aspect of my life: I love music: The choirs here are superb for the size of the university and the facilities are splendid. I love sports: HBU competes at the division 1 level and has a plethora of terrific sports. Also they provide intramural sports for the athletes that are called to invest their time in something else once they graduate high school. I love acting: I am in a small but talented and hopeful theatre group called Rex Flemming Readers. We are performing A Midsummer Night's Dream in April and I'll play the part of Helena. You should come watch! I love to learn: HBU provides so many majors for different career paths and some of the finest professors Texas offers. The small class setting gives you a sense of more value and presence. You're not just a face, you're a name. Lastly, and most importantly... I love my Savior: One thing I loved about this university the second I stepped foot on the grounds as a student was the fact that other students valued their faith. I worship the one true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Alpha and Omega, King of Kings, and Creator of the Universe. Being at a school where that is not only accepted, but taught is of the upmost importance to me. One of my majors is Christianity, and it is pleasant to experience such vigorous teaching on the subject of Jesus and His ministry, as well as the history, theology, and doctrine of the New and Old Testament.
Houston Baptist feels like home to me now. I could not imagine being somewhere else, and perhaps a year from now, you'll be saying this to future freshmen and beanie wearers: "Dogs UP!"
