Hey Everyone!!!!

I hope all is going well for you all. Since I will be attending alternative spring break, I went home this weekend! It was nice seeing my mom and dad; another added bonus was the YUMMY home cooked meals. Needless to say my TUMMY was very happy. Can you guess what happened here at the Colleges, while I was I gone this weekend? There was a BLACKOUT! There was an intense snow and ice storm that hit Geneva. The Colleges and some of the surrounding area were affected. Depending on where you lived on campus, you were either sent to Bristol Gym or the Library. Both of these locations have back up generators. Residential Education and Buildings & Grounds did a great job keeping students informed through emails and updates on the web. I was kept up to date by my friends through Facebook. It was quite entertaining!

I have four more days until I go to Norlina, North Carolina, and I cannot contain myself. It’s going to be a lot of FUN! Have a Terrific Tuesday, Wonderful, Tantalizing, Fantastic, Stupendous, and Splendid rest of the week. Take care :)

Hey Cyber Buds!!!

I cannot believe that it is already Wednesday!!! Where does the time go? But before I continue I have to tell you about my weekend, it was GREAT!!

On Friday, I attended Masquerade ball that was put together by the Caribbean Student Association (CSA). They did a GREAT job; it was a very successful event. The proceeds from the event were given to AIDS Rochester.

On Saturday, there was an open house on campus so I gave tours, then I stopped by the William Smith Basketball game. It was an awesome game, they did not win, but they will be playing in the NCAA this Friday!!! They have had a GREAT season.

I slept in on Sunday, and then spent the day doing homework. This week has been busy between meetings, work, and classes. Last night there was supposed to be a huge ice storm, but thank God it was not as intense as predicted. The trees look soooooo beautiful, it looks there are jewels hanging from them.

Since, spring break is right around the corner, most everyone has exams this week and next. I had two exams last week and I have a take home midterm due tomorrow. I like the fact that my professors scheduled exams before spring break, so I can truly enjoy the break!! Spring break is March 14-23, so if you are thinking about a visit to the Colleges, there will not be too many students around, so you might want to visit the week before or after break.

I will be attending one of the alternative spring break programs in Norlina, North Carolina to work at a rural elementary school. I went last year and had a BLAST!! To see more information about this program and other programs, click on the link below. If you have any questions, feel free to spend me a message. Have a WONDERUFL Wednesday, TERRIFIC Tuesday, Fantastic Friday, Stupendous Saturday, and SPLENDID Sunday!!

Hey Cyber Buddies!!!

I had a GRAND weekend!!! On Friday I attended the Asian Student Union Lunar New Year Celebration. The food was amazing!!!! I was stuffed, as I finished eating I just wanted to curl up in bed. I was able to try really great foods that I have never had before. They also had sushi that they made themselves; it was very YUMMY!!!! The event was held at Intercultural Affairs, also known as ICA here at the Colleges. The ICA is a hot spot for many students here at the colleges. There are always tons of events going on there.

On Saturday, I slept in, which felt WONDERFUL!!!! And then I did laundry. Later that evening I attended Harlem Nights, which is an event put on every year by Sankofa, which is the Black Student Union. Harlem Nights is a reenactment of the Harlem Renaissance, everyone wore clothes from that era, and there were guest performances from Langston Hughes, Billie Holiday, Nat King Cole, and many others. I was one of waitresses for the evening. It was held in the lower half of barn. Did I just say barn? Yes, I did! We have a barn here at the Colleges, but there are no farm animals. The space is used for various events here on campus.

Today I went to church, and took a mid day nap. I LOVE power naps, it helps me greatly throughout the day. This week I have two exams, so I am busy studying the night away! Have a Magnificent Monday, a Terrific Tuesday, a Wonderful Wednesday, a Tantalizing Thursday, a Fantastic Friday, a

The After Gobble, Gobble

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. I loved being at home!!! I ate to my hearts content and bonded with my family. It was easy for me to get home because the Colleges charter a bus to New York City for all the breaks. It is only sixty-seven dollars round trip, which is a deal compared to Grey Hound. Also, it’s a lot of fun on the bus, because there are lots of laughter and tons of movies to watch, while taking the five and half hour trip to NYC. You never have to worry about getting home; you can carpool with a friend or catch a flight out of Rochester.

Where does the time go? This is my last week of classes. Then it’s reading days; this means that we have a few days to prepare for our exams and then we start exams Tuesday!! I have two papers and two exams. I have completed one paper, which feels GREAT, because this means I will have more time for my other assignments. I did not do much this past weekend; I just took time to relax.

On Friday, I attended the Founder’s Day dinner for William Smith College. It’s a celebration that honors that founder of William Smith College. After that I went to play A Lady Alone. The play was about the life of Elizabeth Blackwell; the first woman doctor in country. Before Hobart College ever became Hobart it was Geneva Medical College. Even though there was much controversy about Elizabeth Blackwell’s tenure at the Geneva Medical College, she made it against all odds and graduated. The play was an interesting depiction her life.

On Saturday I went to the William Smith basketball game against Keuka College. The William Smith College basketball team is currently undefeated with a record of 3-0. There was a shot out at half time, and decided I to join in on the excitement. I made three baskets in forty-five seconds…….hahahaha. Even though I did not win a free t-shirt I still had a lot of FUN!!!! There is a lot going on this week but something that gets me through; Monday is a stepping stone to Wednesday and then before you know it Friday is here!!! Have a wonderful week!

Fall in Geneva

Hey Everyone!!!!

It has been sooooo long. I have not fallen off the face of the earth……..I am alive and well. I can’t believe that a month and a few weeks in November have already past. So much has happened during that time. During the month of October there was fall recess, trustee weekend, and also parents weekend. My mom came from the Bronx to spend the weekend with me, and we had a GREAT time!!!! That weekend we attended the Latin American Organization parent’s dinner. There were great performers from the Colleges and a traveling group from Syracuse. I am apart of Harmony’z With Soul, which is a gospel and R&B group here at the Colleges. We have had various singing engagements these past few weeks. So far we have sung at a Latin American Organization event, Caribbean Student Association event, and a Hip-Notiqs (step team) event. Then we have the Kwanzaa celebration to prepare for. This event is planned every year by Sankofa; the black student union. Yesterday, there was a rally on campus hosted by the Black Student Union. This gathering was sparked by recent events that are rampant across our society today. Issues concerning social justice, and understanding and educating others on how we can all be an advocates for change. It was a wonderful event!!!

Thanksgiving break is right around the corner!!!! I can’t wait!!! Our break starts Tuesday after our last commitment. It is inexpensive and easy for me to get home for breaks. Even though there is a greyhound station in Geneva, the Colleges charter a bus for half the cost for a round trip. I love taking the bus through the Colleges, because you know everyone on the bus, and it is a chill environment of listening to music, watching movies, and catching up with friends you have not seen in a while.

When we get back from break we have a few weeks of classes, then reading days, and then we take exams, and then…….. we are home for a MONTH!!!!! I am already excited for next semester, because my friends that are abroad will be back for next semester!!! I can’t wait to here about their travels abroad. On the other hand I'm sad because some of my friends this semester will be abroad for next semester, but I'm happy for them and can’t wait to here all about their experiences. I apologize for being on a hiatus for soooooo long!!! I'm in serious withdrawal from not chatting with all of you!!! I can’t wait to here back from all of you, and I don’t bite, so drop me a message sometime!!! Have a GREAT day!!!!

Hey Everyone!!!!

Can you believe that tomorrow is going to be October 1st? Time goes by soooooo quickly!!! I am definitely enjoying all the courses that I am taking this semester. They are: Introduction to Personality, Research in Cognition, Children with Disabilities, and Making Connections. This past month I have had response papers, lab reports, presentations, quizzes, and a research paper. Time management is vital!!!

On top of being a full time student, there are clubs and campus jobs that I work and participate in. It can be chaotic at times, but I just take it day by day. I also make sure that I have an equal balance between work and fun. Last weekend I spent the day out with friends. We went to this nice restaurant and spent the rest of the time shopping!!! It was a GREAT way to catch up with friends and unwind.

This past Friday I attended the 26th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner of Geneva Area Branch NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). It was a wonderful dinner to connect with many members of the Geneva community. Geneva has a wonderful history of movement; from women’s rights and civil rights.

On Saturday, I slept in and had rehearsal for Harmony’z with Soul (gospel and R&B singing group). The weather has been beautiful this entire weekend!! Today I went to church and now am getting ready for the start of a new week!! I hope you all have a GREAT week!!!

Hey Everyone!!!!

I hope you have had a GREAT start to the school year. I’m already going into my fourth week and I cannot believe it!!! Time flies. I know this is an over used cliché, but I feel like I just arrived at the Colleges. I know you all know how I must feel, you were just a first year, and now you are a senior getting ready to graduate from high school. During my first two years at the Colleges I have been able to do many different things. Like attending conferences, playing an intramural sport, running for various leadership positions, and etc. The opportunities are endless!!! Last year a friend of mine created a glass blowing club, and they created t-shirts that said, “My school blows, but on the back it said, “Glass. It was awesome!!! I love that students can create a club and go after a passion that they have.

I had a GREAT weekend overall. On Friday I attended Opening Day. It is a ceremony for the women of the William Smith for the start of an academic year, and to celebrate the new members of Laurel Society. The Laurels is an honor society for sophomores and juniors of William Smith College. I had a lot of fun, and the food was very good. And to top the evening off, cheese cake was served!!!! This is always a bonus!! On Saturday I attended the Health Professions conference that was on campus and did laundry. That evening, I had a home cooked meal that was prepared by some friends of mine. It was YUMMY!!!

Today, I slept in and then had a meeting with the singing group I’m a part of, Harmony’z with Soul. It is an R&B and gospel group. Now I’m getting ready for the start of a new week. I know Monday is a hard day to start on, but I always remember Monday is a stepping stone to Wednesday, and then Friday is here!!!! Have a GREAT week!!! I will chat with you soon, I mean type with you soon………..did you all get my joke……..probably not, but you all will soon learn that it’s my personality, I’m corny!!!
