Applying just got easier?!

Immaculata has just made applying a little bit easier!

Immaculata is now a member of the Common Application! The Common App is a group of colleges and universities that all agree to accept the same application.

The advantage is all for the student! You only complete the application once, then answer institution-specific questions in the "supplement" that most schools have.

Immaculata waives the application fee when you apply using the Common App. Visit the Common App website for more information.

It's time for the short list!

Alright juniors... well, now seniors. This is it... YOUR SENIOR YEAR. You've only been waiting for this since you were in kindergarten! There's SO much to look forward to this year! Why not get started NOW!?

It's time to start making that list of schools that you're going to apply to! Hopefully, you had a chance to attend an Open House or two this past spring or maybe you did the "College Road Trip" this summer. Either way... summer can be a great time to get the application process started.

Now, before you click back to facebook saying "this guy is crazy if he expects me to work on anything school-related over the summer"... hear me out.

I'm not suggesting any major work. Just spend a little time figuring out which schools you want to apply to. Categorize them a little... the reach school, the I-think-I'll-get-in, and the I'll-definitely-get-in. If you're really excited about it, maybe you can even find out how much the rents are going to have to cough up in application fees.

Your senior year will start before you know it... so take a little time and have this one thing in order!

What a weekend!!

It's not often that I can spend a whole weekend working and get home really excited about having done it. This past weekend was definitely an exception to the norm. (Look for pictures on the Social Network soon!)

If you were on campus either Saturday or Sunday, you saw the energy and excitement about Immaculata! Between the two days, we had nearly 500 people on campus! It was great to meet (many for the second or third time) the students who will be a part of the Class of 2012!

As May 1st approaches, it's exciting to see the Class of 2012 coming together! If you're ready to be a part of it, send in your deposit to reserve your space in the class and in housing. Remember, after May 1st, it's on a space-available basis only! If you're still deciding, let me know how I can help you! It's an important decision, and we're all here to help!

What if I can't visit...

If you've read our blogs before, then you know that Immaculata places great value on the campus visit.

Seeing a campus in person is the only way to know, for sure, that it's going to be a good fit. However, a visit isn't always possible. Students come to Immaculata different states and different parts of the country. While some students will visit campus two or three times before making their final decision, others don't have that luxury. So, if you can't visit, what are some other ways to get to know us??

1. Visit the website. Now, this is a good start, but there's lots more to learn about IU than what we're able to put on the web.

2. Email your admission counselor. They're like an ambassador for Immaculata. They can help to match you up with a faculty member or student who will be able to teach you more about IU.

3. Join a chat! You've gotten the emails. They start with "register for the chat" and lead up to "join the chat right now". Chatting are current students, admission counselors, and sometimes even faculty! We'll have chats at least once a month this spring... so join one!

Visiting campus is the best way to make sure that the college you're selecting is the right choice!

There are things you can only learn about a campus through the visit. All of the publications, guidebooks, guidance counselors, and friends can only tell you so much.

You have to experience it on your own!

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"

Around Immaculata, things are shaping up for the holidays! Holiday favorites can be heard on the radio... there was a LITTLE bit of snow over the weekend (it's already gone today, Monday) In our office, some of the students put up a tree last week...

And for Carol Night, coming up December 7th, the staff is putting the final touches on the BIG Christmas tree in the Rotunda. If you've ever visited, you'll remember the Rotunda. The tree is HUGE! Our offices are on the second floor, and when we walk towards it... it's taller than we are!

Carol Night is a great IU tradition! Definitely worth attending if you're nearby. We'll try to have a little video footage to share on the site. Here's a shot of the tree right after the lights went on:

NO APPLICATION FEE?!?!

That's right... you're not mistaken... in fact, you probably already know!

This year, Immaculata has decided to waive application fees through December 15th!

WHAT A DEAL!

It's just one more reason you should go ahead and apply. Add that to

1. Your parents are asking about where you're going to apply...
2. You'll find out in 3-4 weeks...
3. You can be completely finished when your friends are just getting started!

So.... what are you waiting for?? Click here to go to the online application or here to print one out.

Do you know anything about the book situation??

So, I got this question and thought I would post the answer so everyone could see the answer.

College textbooks...

The most important thing you'll need is your class schedule. That's how you make sure to buy exactly the books that your professor is going to use in the class.

There are two options for actually purchasing them:

1. Buy online. Go here http://immaculata.bkstore.com to order your books online from the bookstore. You can have them shipped to your house (if you order soon) or have them waiting in the bookstore for you to pickup when you move in.

2. Shop in person. Again, make sure you have your schedule and head to the bookstore. The textbooks are setup by academic department, then course number, and finally section.

There will be people in the bookstore to help you with your selections and point out their great deals on Immaculata t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.

3 weeks to go...

We're only three weeks away from Move-In Day 2007!

Campus is buzzing with final preparations of residence halls and finishing summer construction before the new students arrive! Here's a few tips for those of you joining the IU family this fall:

1. Call your roommate. I promise that you'll only need one TV, one stereo... you get the idea. Decide now who's bringing what, and split things up. One person can bring a small fridge and the other a TV/DVD player.

2. Review your packing list. Two important things to remember: one: this isn't the time for winter sweaters! Pack just the clothes you'll need between now and fall break or thanksgiving. two: you're not moving out of your house forever... it's okay to leave some things at home.

3. Check your email and visit the portal. Everyone has been sent their various logins for email, myiu portal, etc. Visit these sites before you come to campus so that you're used to using them when classes begin. This is how you'll learn about what's going on!

4. Call us with your questions!

Enjoy the remaining weeks of your summer!

Transforming a campus...

The filming of "Our Lady of Victory" transformed our campus back to 1972! We've been able to snap some pictures around campus of some of the action!

This shot of the entrance to campus was completely rebuilt... from the sign to the guard post! We've seen old clothes, old school buses, even a completely redone 1968 Volkswagen Bus!

It's been great to see the movie from behind the scenes... we're all DEFINITELY looking forward to seeing the release next March!

The final scenes are being filmed this week at some local spots, and soon we'll be back to "normal"... JUST IN TIME FOR ORIENTATION!!!!

About to be a senior? Then it's about time to visit!!

Last weekend, we had our first Open House, exclusively, for the Class of 2012! That's right... you're about to be seniors, and it's time to start that college search. There's over 3,000 college and universities... so you'd better get started! HA!

Summer is a great time to start thinking about which schools you're most interested in. It's not a bad time to visit some of the campuses that you're most interested in. Of course, you'll want to go back and see it when classes are in session!

Here at IU, we're having a BUSY summer. Along with the movie, we're getting ready for New Student Orientation in July and have tours going on daily! Students are coming from all over the country to see IU. There was a family from Atlanta here over the weekend and I just talked to a student from Buffalo today!

When it's time to come see us... just call. We'd love to have you on campus!

See you soon!
