This week is playing catch-up from all the things I should have been doing this past week when I had to be at play practice all the time. I have an English research paper I have to write this weekend, but I'm actually really excited to write it because the poet I picked, Gerard Manley Hopkins, is one of my favorites. We have to take a typical, canonical writer, and compare/ contrast with a newer writer from a different culture. The focus is on globalization, which I think is good and bad. Good, because there is so much literature and so many ideas out there that one would not be exposed to otherwise, bad, because then a lot of the typical works, the classics, are only skimmed, or cut out entirely. There's a reason they're classics!! These trendy English-book writers- :D
Last night Rebecca and I went to the kick-off of History Day, a competition for area schools and high schools to advance and champion the study of history. The competition is being held for the first time at Immaculata, which is a wonderful opportunity for us, to reach out into the area. We're going to be judges that day, too-yay!! and boss people around, which is always fun ;)
After the event was over, Rebecca, Rich, Dr. Watson, Dr. Ahtes, and I went to Kildare's, this really nice little Irish pub/restaurant in West Chester. That was fun, and the food was really good. It's great, I think, how I can do whatever I enjoy here-I'm an English major who's just very involved in the history department, and I work in admissions, so I get to do all sorts of events connected with new students and meeting people, and I dig in the dirt for artifacts at Duffy's Cut, and I have a bunch of friends in the Music department, so I know about those events, and attend them, too, when I can, and I'm in Cue and Curtain, which allows me to meet an entirely different group of people and do another thing I love: frolic about merrily on stage, and ahh, yay-I'm so glad to be in college!!
