This Is My Life To Live

This is my life to live. As a college student I'm going to make decisions about my life that aren't always the best. I don't look back and say, "Man, I wish I had done this differently." I'm not the kind of person that is going to be angry about something that is in the past and over with. I prefer to learn from my mistakes and become a better person from them.

My parents (will probably be reading this) raised me, my brother, and my sister, to learn from any wrong that we have done and to just own up to a wrong doing before anything escalates. People that have known me for more than five years will tell you that I've matured quite a bit in the time they've known me. Part of it is because I've gotten older, but its primarily because I've made mistakes and I've learned from them.

So, about how this is my life to live. I want to make my own decisions about things and not have someone tell me when and how I need to do something every second of the day. College is a time to learn how to be independent and start becoming an adult. I'm not saying I never want anyone to give me guidance because, let's face it, we all need a little help every now and then. Asking questions is all a part of learning.

I don't know if I've had any big lessons this year yet. Last year there were quite a few which could be why there aren't many this year. I have quite a bit of friends from back home that are freshmen and they have been asking me how they should handle things. Everyone handles certain situations differently. I usually try to tell them what I would do in a certain situation or if I've been through the situation before I'll tell them what I did do.

I had someone ask me tonight, "Alex, why are you so nice?"
My initial response was, "Well, do you want me to stop?"
She said she didn't want me to change but was curious as to why I am the way I am. I told her an answer that I felt was most true and most honest. I said, "I want to make people happy and no one ever got anywhere by being a jerk."
That isn't a direct quote of what I said but I think you'll get the same idea. You might be wondering what I did to make someone ask me such a question. Well, I asked her if she wanted me to proof read a paper. I've had conversations with her before about some of the lessons I've learned and some that she's learned and we've become pretty good friends.

Its the simple decisions that I've decided to make that sometimes make the biggest difference. I'm living my life the way I want to. I've changed more than I ever thought I would in the last few years. I've become a person that I like being and that other people like being around. This is my life to live. What are you doing to live yours?

Never A Dull Moment

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome back! Since my last post not too much has happened. I hung out with some friends this past weekend and played some games, shared quite a few laughs, and just enjoyed life. I hope that all of you out there, no matter where you are, are able to have some fun to break up the stress that builds up during the week.

There was one BIG thing that happened this week. On Tuesday my family got the news that my dad has been cleared and is cancer free. Unfortunately I wasn't there to have a little celebration with him and the family but he knows that I was with him at heart (I love you, Pops!). It was undoubtedly some of the best news I've gotten in a long time. This occurrence with my dad being diagnosed with cancer was certainly an eye opener for the family. Well, I believe that’s all I’m going to say about that. This blog is meant to be about my life at Tech and the personal business will remain just that, personal.

And we’re back to Tech. Yesterday (Thursday) our volleyball team had a Dig Pink match against Madonna University. The Dig Pink theme is to raise awareness and money for the fight against breast cancer. One of my fellow Resident Assistants and myself hosted a Let’s Make A Deal game between games two and three. It was a blast and I believe all contestants had a great time. Prizes varied from a single container of Play-Doh to a digital camera. The Lady Warriors unfortunately were not able to come out on top this time losing 3-1. Regardless of the score though the team had the support of everyone in the gym and we never gave up.

Sports are a big part of just about everyone’s life at Tech. If you don’t play one, chances are you’ll end up going to some. It’s a great way to get out of your dorm, hang out with friends, and yell as loud as you want. As I’ve said in an earlier post, I am playing basketball for the Warriors and I couldn’t be happier. With practices underway I am now just looking forward to the games starting.

Saturday (10/16/10) our men’s and women’s soccer teams will be having a double header to help raise awareness for cancer. If any of you are available I’m sure they would love your support. I believe the game times are either 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. I will be there hopefully for both games cheering my heart out.

Some of you may be wondering what exactly my life is like here at Tech. I can sum it up in one word, interesting. I say that because of all the new people and experiences I’ve had. It is still new to me being away from home for such a long time and being on my own. As a student at Tech I don’t think there is anything that I would change about my college experience.

Well, I do believe that is all I have to say for this post ladies and gentleman. I appreciate all of you tuning in for my thoughts on being a student at Tech and hearing about some of the things that goes on here on campus.

Enjoy your weekend and God Bless!

Photo Shoot

Since my Junior year in high school I have been in love with photography.

These are just a few of the photographs I've take since then. I have often thought about pursuing a career in photography or maybe just as a hobby on the side. I've had people ask me to take photos for occasions that they are having and I've unfortunately had to turn them down because of the school schedule. I'll try to get some more pictures up on my blogs to make them a little more exciting for all of you. I hope you enjoyed the shots that I put up. Have a great rest of the week!

God Bless!

Halloween Festivities

Welcome back ladies and gentleman! This weekend was a surprise for me, as well as many other Tech students. We had two of our former students come for a visit and we only knew about one of them, Jenn. At the volleyball game on Friday Laren showed up and shocked all of us! She currently goes to Missouri State.

Towards the end of last year I started hanging out with both Jenn and Laren and when they got back it was one of the best surprises of the year. One other thing that made their visit special is that today (Halloween) is my friend Katrena's birthday! Unfortunately I wasn't able to celebrate Halloween with my friends because I was feeling a little under the weather.

I got to see my family on Saturday for the first time in about a month. My aunts and uncle were able to make it to the basketball games on Saturday. The results weren't what we had hoped for but things will turn around. We have very talented teams and will only improve from here.

It was a short blog this time, I know. I hope all of you have a wonderful week and I would like to thank you for coming back.

God Bless
