Activities: Lacrosse Team, Field Hockey Team, President of Student Government Association
Hi All!!
I can't believe it is already July! It is hard to imagine a year from now I will have graduated and be living on my own!
Just to give you a look into what a typical college student's summer consists of I am going to provide you with a week in the life of me, Amanda Miller.
This past Sunday I went to a concert up in NH. It was a BLAST! Monday I fortunately had the day off and went to Hampton Beach with a friend. Tuesday reality hit and I had to go back to work after a nice weekend off. I have two jobs one of which is at the Admissions office at Lasell. I am an admissions ambassador for about 20 hours a week. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday I worked in admissions and then went to my second job at Shaw’s Supermarket right down the road from school. I worked until 10pm then went to bed because I was so tired. I have Friday off most of the time because I promised myself this summer I would relax and have fun before my senior year. Saturday I am helping a friend move but most Saturday's I would spend my time at Shaw’s. So it’s a lot of work and a little play for this summer.
I hope you are all having a safe and relaxing summer! I look forward to talking to you soon!
~Mills
This semester has been crazy busy! I know a lot of you have been getting your letters of acceptance to colleges. Let me tell you…this is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Let me explain why Lasell may be a good choice for you. Lasell affords students opportunities you would never have thought possible. Back on April 4th, Lasell installed our 9th President of the college. His name is Michael Alexander. How many students can say they spoke at a Presidents Inauguration? I am very proud to say that I have that opportunity. You can see the whole inauguration video at http://www.lasell.edu/inauguration.asp.
I hope to see some of you on campus in the fall and in the future! Please stay tuned for summer blogs!!!
Go Lasers!!
So I thought it would be a good idea to take all of my curricular and extra curricular activities and explain why I do them and what I gain from them. I will be doing this over the next two weeks. So...if the first subject isn’t quite what you were looking for, please stop by soon to check out the rest. The first aspect I am going to talk about really stems from the intellectual/academic side of me. Connected Learning is a term coined by Lasell College, to explain the college’s philosophy of Learning. “We complement traditional approaches with active learning experiences. We are committed to the idea of learning by doing through internships, service learning, and challenging projects in and out of the classroom. My very first connected learning project was in my introduction To American Civilization class my first semester here. I got to go down to Lasell Village and interview the residents about their experience in World War II. It was very interesting because it put you in their shoes for a moment. This is just one small example of how connected learning has fostered my learning as well as my life long critical thinking skills. Many of the critical thinking skills I have learned have been through the Honors Program at Lasell. I have really made strides in the Honors Program and can only wish to future my intellectual curiosity in the next 3 semesters. Feel free to check out my honors page at... http://www.lasell.edu/academics/honors/studentprofiles.asp
Hey Everyone!
With the New Year comes the opportunity to begin with a fresh start. Clearing my mind, body and soul over Winter break, I am ready to tackle what is sure to be a demanding but fun filled semester. Classes began a little over a week ago and I am already busy as a bee! My classes appear to be challenging yet fun. I am taking Statistics, Sociology, Lyric Poetry, Aesthetics, World Civilization, and the Historical and Psychological Perspective of Torture. All of which are instilled with the colleges connected learning philosophy. Lacrosse starts on Monday, and we have been conditioning with our strength and conditioning coach. We will be ready for the season and ready for our Spring break trip to Maryland!
While my year is just beginning, it seems like the beginning of the end for those of you in your senior year in High School. You have many choices to make within the next 4 months. I urge you to continue to look at Lasell as your first choice college. This institution is the best thing that ever happened to me. I assure you that it will not be a bad choice. Feel free to ask me any questions and stay tuned for more information regarding the spring semester!!
Now is an exciting time to be a student at Lasell. There are many changes being initiated by both the college administration as well as the Student Government Association that have changed my experience here for the better. Just this month we have made many strides with the food offered on campus with the Food Committee through SGA. Every Thursday evening at dinner, you are able to get Chicken Nuggets which is one of the student’s favorite foods according to the survey that almost 400 people completed outside the dining hall one day. In addition to the improvements in food, we have also made improvements in the grounds of the college. Our annual lighting walk took place this month where members of the administration as well as SGA members took a walk around campus, after dark, to establish if there are any dangerous or dark places we could improve on. We acknowledged that there were many changes for the better that the students had brought up last year. We are working very hard to ensure that the Lasell experience is everything a student has wished and hoped for.
It is my hope that if you are investigating colleges you sincerely consider Lasell as one of your choices. I wish that I was in high school again so I could attend Lasell in the next few years when major changes are going to be started and completed. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and happy New Year. Please stay tuned for more information and blogging when we get back in January. I will tell you all about my winter break, which is always a blast from the past back home.
HELLO EVERYONE!!!!!
I’m sorry it has been so long. School has kept me busy with papers and LOTS of reading! This weekend was the best weekend I have ever had at Lasell! On Saturday we played Regis in a non-conference game and won 10-0. A shut-out started this weekend off with a bang! Right after the game, I went to Fall Fest, which was a big BBQ right by the soccer game, jamin’ 94.5 was there and there were activities for all. Student Government Association had pumpkins for little kids to paint and the Center for Spiritual Life had a table of fun activities for all ages. That night I took my Grandma into Boston for the Boston Symphony. It was awesome!! My grandma had a great time, and it gave me a chance to get off campus for a bit of family time.
Sunday was River Day!! This is when families, alumni, staff, and students make teams and race restored warrior canoes in the Charles River. This year was my first year actually racing a boat. Members from SGA teamed up and made t-shirts; we came prepared to race! We won the first heat, but tied in the second for a re-race. We lost, and ended up soaking wet which was disappointing but a lot of fun. To end the weekend I had an ice hockey game off campus and played really well, although we lost we really came together as a team. This weekend was the best I can remember in a long time, and I am glad that I get to share it with all of you. Below are some pictures that I hope you enjoy.

There were over 70 People there, it was a great turnout!

Hey Readers,
Sorry it has been so long! I have been so busy with the start of classes and field hockey season. So being president of the student body has its perks here at Lasell. A couple of weeks ago I was privileged enough to speak to the new students at convocation. I have done a lot of public speaking in church, but never in front of a crowd of my peers. This was my first speech as the President of the Student body…I was SO nervous! It turns out that I shouldn’t have been nervous at all, it was possibly, in my opinion anyway… the best speech I had ever delivered.
I just wanted to briefly share with you what I said in that speech because I believe that it is good advice for anyone to follow no matter where you go to school. . The three pieces of advice were to get to know a faculty or staff member, get involved, and have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE! One piece of advice I would like to expand upon is having a positive attitude. Not only will it help you throughout your college career but it will also prove to be a valuable life lesson. This piece of advice is to have a positive attitude in everything you do. If you have a positive attitude about a test, you will most likely do better than if you said to yourself I’m going to fail. Having a positive attitude made a world of difference with my first year roommate. Like many of you, the thought of sharing my room, and my personal space with a complete stranger was scary and very stressful. However I maintained a positive attitude and truly got to know who my roommate was before I assumed it wouldn’t work out. In my case, my first year roommate is now my best friend, but even if you and your roommate don’t hit it off, you can still both remain positive about the situation.
I hope this advice finds you well and you use it then next time you have to make a difficult decision or are just having a bad day. Be sure to stay tuned for the next blog and feel free to respond to any that I have written in the past. Talk to you soon!
Hey Everyone,
Sorry it has been so long since my last blog! I was busy moving from my summer room in Holt to my new room in Bragdon for the School year. I am all moved in and it feels GREAT!!!!!!!! I still have some unpacking to do but it is coming along! When I get all settled, and everything is put away I will be sure to post some pictures. Speaking of pictures, my field hockey team went on a kayaking trip last week and took amazing funny pictures. Field Hockey has been keeping me really busy. Our team looks great this year! We fought a hard battle in our season opener against WPI (Worchester Polytechnic Institute) but we lost 3-2. If you want to check out our Field Hockey site here is the URL. We will be getting pictures in a few days! http://www.lasell.edu/athletics/fieldhockey1.asp
Well I am off to bed! I have a busy day tomorrow. I have a meeting in the morning then I have to finish my speech for convocation (where all the new students get a warm welcome). Then it’s off to Connecticut for a field hockey game against Eastern Connecticut College. CAN’T WAIT!!!
I will talk to ya’ll real soon! Stay tuned for more pictures!
Hey Everyone,
Summer is coming to an end; I start field hockey practice in just 9 days!!! The summer absolutely flew by; it seems like just yesterday I was moving out of Forest suites and into Holt for the summer. This summer has been the busiest summer ever. I worked at least 70 hours a week between my 2 jobs! I am looking forward to classes and getting back into a routine again.
Some exciting campus happenings over the summer include a new expansion of the dining hall that will allow for more people to be accommodated at one time, the new draining system underneath Taylor field so the soccer team won’t be swimming each time it rains, and the brand new Rockwell dorm which is now our largest dorm on campus. All of these renovations will dramatically improve our campus and student life. I am very excited for returning students but most importantly first year students to see all of the changes and expansions.
Well that is all for now. Below are some pictures that I tried to get up last week, but I couldn’t figure it out. Better late than never!!!!

Hey Everyone,
I just wanted to take this first blog to introduce myself to all of you. As all of you know my name is Amanda Miller, my nickname is Mills, I am a junior at Lasell College. I am an IDS major focusing primarily in psychology, humanities, and history. After Lasell I plan on attending Boston University to recieve a dual degree in Counseling, and Divinity. I play 2 intercollegiate sports including Field Hockey and Lacrosse. I am also the President of the Student Government Association. When I am not in class, or participating in sports or organizations you can most likely find me at the local Shaw’s Supermarket down the road from Lasell. I am a front-end supervisor and have worked there for 4 years. I absolutely love my job despite the fact that it can give you the biggest headache of your life. I also like to shop, go to the gym, drink Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee, and spend time with my family.
