My Summer Internship Experience

As many of you know, I was lucky enough to be part of a great internship program at CVS/pharmacy store support center, also known as their corporate headquarters. Many people apply to this internship each year and only a select few are interviewed and asked to come aboard. I was one of those qualified individuals. I am currently going for my double major in accounting and finance, so this made my Lasell experience that much richer!

During my first few days at CVS I was trying to get acquainted with my surroundings. It is such a large facility (2,000 employees +) that it's easy to get lost on your first day. Aside from being nervous/confused on my first day, I was a little caught off guard when my hiring manager and Director of Finance, Paul, asked me to edit the line-fee forecast for the remainder of the year. It baffled me that he wanted me to get right in the middle of projects and share my opinions. I felt that I was actually important to the company, which was great! What's even better is that I edited the line-fee forecast and the company actually used the numbers that I had forecasted. I was so excited!

There were many more instances such as this that came later in my internship. I was able to work with deposit forecasts, enter journal entries, do the daily audits such as the adjusted trial balance and general ledger accounts, as well as help on a special project for student loans of Eckerd and Revco, which became a part of CVS a few years prior. The work that I had completed at CVS helped me understand what I was reading in textbooks as well as the projects that I was completing at Lasell. I my opinion, CVS is a great company to work for and I had an awesome internship experience.

If you are interested, there is a link below to view my powerpoint presentation. We, as interns were required to give a presentation to our hiring manager and department as well as the Human Resources department (as they were the ones who funded the program) at the end of the summer. So Check it out!

Almost Senior Year!

Well, as you know by now, I am a field hockey captain here at Lasell College. We are currently in the middle of our second week of pre-season. Its been a tough 11 days so far. We are out on the hot turf twice a day. Usually we would have triple sessions, but Taylor Field, home of Lasell Soccer and Softball is currently being renovated with a new irrigation system. Therefore, my team, men's soccer and women's soccer have to share Grellier Field, which is the turf field. Good thing we all get along! :-D

Pre-season here at Lasell is quite different from the regular school year. There are only a select few teams on campus and its very quiet. We tend to like that for the first week when we are getting situated, but after that, we want everyone else to get back on campus. However, we are very good at spending time together as a team during pre-season, especially for the freshman to get well acquainted with the campus. This year we have gone to the movies to see Superbad, tie-dyed, played "Karaoke Revolution," gone bowling, and went kayaking down the Charles River. We are always trying to think of new things for team building activities. This really helps the team get incredibly close.

School starts on the 10th of September this year, and as usual, its going to go by so fast. My advice to incoming freshman and prospective students is to use your time wisely, have no regrets, be serious about schoolwork, but have fun at the same time. I'm entering my senior year, and I have no idea how the past three years went by as fast as they did! YAY senior year!!!!
