First time camping...

So this past weekend I went on a trip with the outing club. We went camping at Bilgers Rocks, which is about 1.5 hours from the school. I was excited because this was going to be my first camping trip ever. The club had all the equipment so I didn’t have to have a sleeping bag or anything.

4 cars of us left the school around 5 pm. Once we got there we immediately set up the tents and the campfire and then went to go play in the rocks and the small caves that were in the area.

The next day we did some rock climbing, repelling, and some caving. It was so much fun... except for the giant (ninja) spiders that were in the caves. I have to say that the climbing and repelling was my favorite part.

Sunday we packed up the camp and headed home. It was sad because I felt that the weekend went way to fast.

I have to say that my first camping experience was amazing and I am so glad that I was able to do it with my friends in the Outing Club.

Lets go for a hike.

Hello again. This week has been a busy week with classes. I had two exams and a quiz so I spent a lot of time studying and making up note cards to study from. I find that copying my notes over helps a lot. I make a to-do list every week in order to keep up with the homework that I have to complete.

So yesterday was Thursday and for the first time since the start of school I did not have anything going on at night. I was so excited that I was able to join the outing club on its usual Thursday night hike. We went across the river from the school, about 5 minutes away. We left campus around 6 pm and got back after 8. It was a lot of fun just talking and going down the trail. At the end there was a little creek and we climbed down and explored a bit. On our way out it got dark so we all wore headlamps to light our path. It was a good time.

This weekend the outing club is going camping and I am excited. This is my first camping trip ever so it will be a new experience.

This week in class...

So I figured one more update this week would be nice. This week was busy with my classes. I am carrying 17 credits this semester, so I am quite a busy girl. Full time students can take anywhere form 12 to 18 credits and most incoming freshmen take 15. Being that I am a senior, I tend to take more classes. It takes a lot of time management to keep up with the work (I find that scheduling homework time into my schedule helps).

I am taking an Art History class this semester in Ancient Art. It seems very interesting. The reason I am taking it is for my minor. Right now we are learning about the different cave paintings found throughout France and also different monuments that are seem in ancient cultures. I am working on a term paper for that class already. It is not due for another month, but why wait when I have the time now (because I may not have as much later). I am writing about the Triumph Arch. I enjoy architecture so I figured that would be a good choice for me.

I am also working on a Special Education minor and I am taking a course this semester called Emotional Support. In that class we are learning about functional assessment of students with emotional behavioral disorders and positive behavior support strategies that can be used in the classroom. It is interesting to learn methods to help the students in the classroom. During this class I will also be going into a classroom setting to work with students. I am looking forward to this because I really am excited to be a teacher.

Well, that is all for now and I hope that you all have a great weekend!

Outing club fun!

Well hello again. I just wanted to drop in for a quick update.

This weekend the outing club sponsored an event on the river. We floated in tubes and paddled in kayaks. It was a lot of fun. DJ, the president of the club, brought up some of his boats and I was able to borrow one from a friend of mine. It was the perfect day for it because it was around 90 degrees, the sun was shining and it was so humid. The water was the perfect temperature. We had a good turnout; I would say about 20 people showed up.

DJ is really into white water kayaking and I have to admit I would live to try that sometime, but for now I am perfectly happy with just heading down the river on a nice day.

When we were all done it was fun watching them try to put the boats on top of DJ’s jeep. The one had water in it so he got a little wet driving back to his house. It took two trips to get all the boats back.

Over all I would say that it was a successful day for outing club!

Into full swing already!

Hello all out there. This has been quite a busy week for me.
Last Friday I went to the Fall Fest held here on campus. It was a lot of fun. They had drawings for prizes, balloon animals, face painting, blow up obstacle courses, and cotton candy. I went with a group of my friends and we had a great time, but you can only bounce your way though the obstacle course so many times (right Marisa).

This past weekend was a good weekend too. I worked on Saturday in the admissions office, where we give tours to perspective students. It was kind of rainy out but it wasn’t too bad. I worked with a new employee, Dave, who was a lot of fun and the day went well. After that I went back to my apartment and hung out with some friends and worked on some homework later on.

So far this week I have had 2 club meetings. Monday was the outing club meeting. We discussed the “leave no trace initiative and set up a float down the river for Sunday. I am very excited for this since I love the water. Tuesday was physics club where we are trying to set up some fun trips for the semester to Liberty Science center and other fun places. Thursday night we had a physics club pizza night, too.

I have to say though that I am so happy that it is Friday. I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend house-sitting for a friend of mine. I will be taking care of a dog and a goat… I am not a goat kind of girl so we will see how this goes.
For now I am off to my last couple classes before the weekend.
Oh yeah, if you get a chance, check out the HAC (Haven Activities Council) website. They have some great trips coming up that I am looking forward to.

Start of the semester...

Well hello there to all those in blog land. Classes stated here at LHU last week. It is hard to believe that the second week is also coming to a close (thanks to a 4 day week). This has been an eventful couple of weeks, which has been very good.
Last week being the first week of classes was also the first week of physics club. We held the elections and I was voted president of the club. I am very excited for this, even if it sounds kind of dorky. We had the first meeting for outing club Tuesday night. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to going hiking and camping this semester. I have to say, I am not one for bugs so I am leaving it to DJ (the president of the club and fellow physics club member) to help protect me from them. The first meeting for math club should be coming up soon.
It is nice to have classes start here again. I spent my summer out here in Lock Haven and some of my friends stayed here too. We took classes and worked and had a lot of time to hang out by the pool at my apartment. But now that school is in session everyone back and there is so much more to do.
