Break has started!
Break has officially started and I am glad that it has. I have stayed out here at Lock Haven for a little while longer. I am working in the admissions office and I have been able to spend sime extra time with some friends. I am leaving Thursday though because on Friday I will be flying up to New Hampshire to spend some time visiting my sister.
This past weekend was so much fun. I had no homework or studying to do so I had to find something else to do. So Sunday, we decided that it was a good day for kayaking. I know, you are probably thinking that it is crazy because it is the middle of winter and there is snow on the ground and ice on the river, but I have to admit it was fun… or at least the part of the trip that I finished was fun. We went to the Nescopeck to try a run that none of us had done before. I will say that I am still very much a beginner at white water kayaking. I am still learning how to move in the boat and how to brace and balance so I am not the most graceful on the water. I flipped in the first rapid, great way to start, and had to swim because I still can’t roll. I went through a few more fine and then flipped and swam again. Although I was wearing a dry suit (thanks to Tyler!), that swim made me very cold so I opted not to finish the rest of the 8-mile run. We were only about 2 miles in at that point. So a friend of mine hiked out with me and our boats. I felt bad, but he understood. We are looking at going to a roll clinic so I can work on my roll some more because that would make a world of difference with my kayaking. Also, I think just playing in some flat water would help me to work on just the feeling of the boat a little more. I know that I am currently timid with my movements because I don’t want to flip so as soon as I can roll I will be back out on that whitewater.
For now, I am going to go and finish packing my stuff for my trip to NH. I am excited to go see my sister and a friend from LHU that graduated a year ago.
