Washington DC... here we come

This past weekend the Physics Club took a trip to Washington DC. We left Saturday Morning at 6:45 and came back Sunday around 10 pm. We had a lond ride in the car, using two vans from the school 12 of us took the trip. Once we got right outside DC we took the train into the city. A good group of us walked up to the Whitehouse and the Washington monuement. We took a group photo and then decided where to meet up and we split off into small groups to explore the different museaums. Joey, Matty, Cristina and I first went to the natural history museum. We walked around and saw some neat stuff. There was an orcid exhibit that we all liked. We then hung out outside on the national mall and played frisbee. It was fun to run around in the grass and play.
We all met up to try and decide what to have for dinner... that is harder than you may think. We all could not decide on a place so we split into three groups. There was the Itlian group, the Mexican group and then the best group the Spanish group. Obviously I was in the best group. Matty, Cristina, Joey, Dr. Reid and I all went to a Spanish tapas resturant. We ordered 10 dishes and greatly enjoyed our meal. We also had dessert. It was well worth the split up to go to dinner there.
Later that night we went and saw some other monuements and then made it to the hotle by 1 am. The next morning we had breakfast before heading back to the city where we walked some more and had a lot of fun seeing more museaums before heading back to lock haven.

1 Week of classes and 1 Week of finals left... Yikes!

So weird to think that this semester is just about over. It feels like is has just flown by,

I spent the last weekend in NJ for Easter. I drove down to my families' house on friday after classes. I stopped at my sister's house on the way. I was able to spend some tiem with her, my brother in law and my favorite (only) nephew. Matthew and I got to play, take a bike ride, and read some books. WHen it was time for me to leave to go to my parents house he did not want me to go. But I told him I would see him Sunday for easter so that was a little better.

I was able to get my car fixed on Saturday. I needed a new exaust system so that I could get my car inspected. So I got a new exaust, but failed anway. I needed two new tires so I will get re-inspected sometime in the next couple weeks.

It was nice to be back in NJ to see the family. I hadn't been in Nj since January 1st.

Wednesday, instead of the regualr outing club hike we went up to Spring Creek to the play park and went kayaking. It was me, Joey, Fil, Jared, Tyler, Nate, and DJ. We were able to play in some eddylines and I was able to work on ferrying and catching eddies. I did flip and swim 3 times, but it was better than the last time when I swam 4 times. At least I wasn't the only one that sawm :) .

I honestly feel that I am getting better. I am more comfortable in my boat then ever and I feel that I and gaining a better understanding of the way the water works with and against the boat. Now once I can roll the kayak I will be all set.

Now it is time to get ready to finish off some more homework and get ready for the weekend.

Nearing the end

So this has been such a crazy week. I had two exams and had to present my developiong portfolio on Monday. (The developing portfolio is a collection of work done while here at lhu that I put todether and present to a member of faculty in order to enter into my professional semester). I studied all last week for my two exams because I knew that this past weekend would not have a lot of time left to study in.

Friday night the outing club and I left on a trip to WV. We were headed doen to white water raft the New RIver. Last semester we did the Gauly. It was a lot of fun. We had a small caravan heading down and we decided that since my car gets the best gas mileage and has roof racks that I would carry the two kayaks on top. It was a verry windy drive down to WV. We got there around 12:30 chilled for a bit and then headed for bed. It was very cold that night and I slept between two people who moved a lot! I was the first one up in the morning and work up everyone. We grabbed breakfast and then got ready to head out on the river. I was so excited to try out my new dry top and hydroskin pants. The rapids were awesome and our guides were the best too.

We hung out with the guides Saturday night and talked a lot, played pool, and danced to some music. We all then headed off to bed becasue we had a long drive in the morning. I decided to sleep in my car because I knew I would be really cranky if I didn't sleep again, besides I had to drive 6.5 hours back.

Overall a great trip and a good time with friends. I am now going to pack to head to NJ to visit my family for the weekend.

I love the water

There has been so much going on lately. Classes have been keeping me super busy and I have been doing at least 5 hours of work a day for the last few days. I am trying as hard as I can to complete my work during the week so that I can have some fun on the weekends.
This past weekend we went camping with the outing club. It was a "survival weekend" where we had to create a small survival kit that we could bring with us. In that survival kit we could have whatever we wanted, but we had to be able to make fire and build a shelter and so on. I have tried to make fire by friction and I know that I can not do it. So for my fire making I used a battery and steel wool. Also, to help my fire expand I used the alcohol swab from my kit and inner bark from a tree that I found on the ground. It was a good time. Others tried the fire by friction and the batter and steel wool trick too.
We also went kayaking on Saturday. We did the ledges on the Lehigh and it was the first trip in my boat that I did not swim un. Yay!! Tyler did swim through, he was the only one. I am starting to feel more comfortable in my boat which is helping my paddling abilities. On Sunday on our way home from the camping weekend we stopped and hit the Nescopeck. I was excited to try it again since my last trip to the Nesky did not end with me at the take out. I made it through all the upp er part without a problem, no swims for me where I did before. Once DJ told me that the hard part was over I did not do as well. I ended up swimming 4 times, but that was ok. I was able to role once all by myself. That was the first time I have been able to role all by myself without any help. My technique was all off, but I know I can do it so I know that I can get better.
THis is a crazy busy week so I am now off to do some more homework. I am looking forard to the weekend too becaus it will be another outing club trip that I have been looking foward to.
