#26 So It's Come To This!

Well, this is it! My last EVER blog. Don't cry, it's going to be okay.

I will not be returning to Montclair in the Fall, and the reason is because I've been accepted to NYU to study Film. This is kind of a big deal. I would never have left Montclair if it weren't for the fact that NYU is one of the best film schools in the country.

Will you believe me though when I say that Montclair will always be my home? Even if I end up living in New York City for the rest of my life, my heart will always lie in Montclair. That's because I have learned so much and grown up so much here. You know how people say that college is about broadening your horizons and finding your place in the world? Yeah, I did that at Montclair.

I have met so many incredible people and tried so many new things. My freshman year at Montclair has been the best year of my life so far. I really do mean that.

So here we have it! I hope you've enjoyed my blog posts and maybe had a laugh or two. I hope I've been able to convey just how special of a place Montclair is. I sure am looking forward to that paycheck!

#25 American Idol

Man, I used to watch American Idol all the time. Whenever it would be on I would have to stop whatever I was doing in order to watch it. I have missed homework assignments and skipped studying in order to watch the show.

But lately, I haven't cared. And with Simon Cowell leaving, I assumed that the show was on its way to cancellation. So I haven't watched any episode this year.

Except now everyone's telling me that the show is BETTER than ever. Apparently Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez have breathed new life into the show. Now everybody at school is talking about it and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Whatever.

#24 Ghost People On Campus?

In front of College Hall, there are these really scary white statues. I like to tell my tour groups that they come to life at night. But of course, I'm only joking.

Or am I?

I was walking home to Freeman Hall from the library one chilly Wednesday evening, and I SERIOUSLY think I saw one of the statues move. I freaked out! I ran all the way back to Freeman, and told everyone my horrific experience, and everyone yelled at me for waking them up at 2:30 A.M.

I was really hopped up on caffeine at the time, so maybe I was just crazy and didn't really see the statues move.

Or did I?

Come to Montclair, and decide for yourself!

#23 Elevators

Next to spiders, getting stuck in elevators is definitely my biggest fear. And guess what, that happened to me today!

I always thought to myself that if I were to get stuck in an elevator, I would probably just die immediately in order to save myself the agony. But actually, it was kind of fun! I got stuck in the elevator with just my good friend Emmadora and we seriously made the most out of our situation. We sat down, blasted music, and just chilled out as we waited for the police to come.

As a matter of fact, I'm probably going to look back on this moment as one of my best ever college experiences. My friendship with Emmadora really strengthened in that elevator. We revealed our deepest, darkest secrets to each other, as well as our hopes and fears and desires for the future. It was like we were both in the battlefield, fighting the Nazis, and discussing our wives back home that we really wanted to get back to.

Well after a good twenty minutes the police came and I showed up late to class. My professor asked me where I'd been, and I just smiled! I had become a stronger person that day!

#22 Born This Way?

So Lady Gaga has her new song, "Born This Way." It's okay, but it's not that good, you know?

Well why is everybody on campus singing it and praising it? I mean, stop. Lady Gaga is cool and everything but she's not a goddess! She doesn't have to be great all the time!

If you want a really good song, I'll show you a really good song. People should be singing THIS all over campus:

#21 Very Disappointed With Costco

Well let me tell you! I was hanging out with my awesome roommate Kirk the other day and we went to the movies. It was great. Then we remembered how we needed groceries and decided to walk into the nearby Costco and buy some groceries!

Costco, which I had never been in before, was seriously the most awesome store ever. All your favorite things, they had in HUGE boxes. Like, if you're a fan of cat litter, they have BIG CAT LITTER for the price of SMALL cat litter.

So me and Kirk bought big bags of chips and soda and cookies and other useful things. We were so thrilled with how we would be set for groceries for like, the rest of the semester.

But then we took our groceries to the cash register...only to find that we needed a monthly membership in order to get these groceries! And what college student can afford that?!

Needless to say, me and Kirk put up a fight. And now we're not allowed back in Costco. But who needs them anyway? They need me, if anything. I'm too good for Costco. I don't even care.

#20 Hair pt. 2

Remember that haircutter I talked about? The one who gave me great haircuts, but moved to a town ten minutes away that I couldn't reach very easily?

Well she JUST called me (yeah she has my phone number) and asked why she hasn't seen me in a while. I don't know what to do?! How can I tell her that I've been going to someone else?! This is horrible! I love her haircuts more than any other, but she'll be very angry if she finds out I've been going to someone else.

I wish I knew what to do! I have homework and this I can't deal with this stress right now!

#19 Hair

There are a lot of perks to being a Montclair student (like how we have free laundry!). But you know what's my favorite part? Montclair is home to the world's best haircutter!

A few months ago I was just happily eating ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery in Downtown Montclair and I decided to walk into the nearby haircut shop and get a trim! I wasn't expecting much...but the haircut ended up being the most AMAZING haircut I've EVER gotten. And it was cheap too! I wanted to kiss the haircutter! She was my SAVIOR. Finally, the trauma of having an ugly mushroom cut as a child was starting to wear off!

I went back to her about one or two more times in the first semester. She was so close to campus, it was great! But then...something HORRIBLE happened. She was offered a better paying job in a town that was only ten minutes away, but impossible to get to without a car.

I promised her I would find a way to get haircuts from her. After all, she was the best haircutter I've ever had. But then finally, when the time came to get a haircut, I went to someone else. And it was the worst haircut I'd ever gotten. And the haircutter put some gunk in my hair that made my head smell horrible for three days.

#18 Robert de Niro!

So you know what's really great about Montclair? I'm REALLY close to New York City.

And since I'm so close, I was just able to become an official Crew Member of the Tribeca Film Festival! And when you're a Filmmaking student, this is kind of like a big deal. Especially since Robert de Niro, maybe the most famous actor of all time, is the owner of the festival and I'll probably be meeting him.

Any credibility you may thought I've had is about to be crushed, though. I've never seen any of the GOOD Robert de Niro movies, like The Godfather Part II or The Deer Hunter or Mean Streets. I've only seen Meet the Fockers!

So for my entire first year of college, I've been lying to my Film classes and telling them about how I've seen and loved all of de Niro's movies. Well, I think it's probably time to actually start watching them, yeah?

#17 Disney Movies

This blog post is actually going to be really depressing, be aware!

Well the other day some of my friends decided to throw a Disney Viewing Party, where we would get together and watch a few Disney movies we loved as a child. Obviously I jumped at the chance get nostalgic. Pocahontas, personally, was my favorite Disney movie as a child (even though I was terrified of that talking tree!).

So I went to the party, and we watched Pocahontas. And you know what? I didn't find the talking tree so scary anymore. And I was really proud of myself...except for the fact that I didn't find the movie interesting anymore either. It was actually pretty boring, and I found it pretty repulsive how Disney had fantasized a historical event that wasn't nearly as romantic as they claimed it was.

Then we watched The Little Mermaid and I realized I actually hated the music. "Under the Sea" was the only song I enjoyed as a child, and I'm thinking that's because all the other songs were either dull or aggravating.

Then after twenty minutes of watching Peter Pan I was done with the Disney Viewing Party. I went back to my room and finished writing an essay.

I have a Simba stuffed animal laying around my house somewhere. Maybe I should look for it? Eh, who cares. Not like I play with stuffed animals anymore.
