Spring Break

Hi Everyone

It has finally come....Spring Break. It is what so many college students wait for when they come back from winter break. For me, I am excited to head to Jamaica for a week. It is going to be a great experience and I cannot wait for it. Although come to think of it...I have not even packed yet…haha. Oh well, I will probably do that a couple of hours before we leave.

Monday, MAC Goes Green and SIFE held our Eco-Expo/Art Show. We had different vendors come and provide education on recycling and helping the environment. It was a good turnout for the first year. The art show was interesting as well. There was a variety of art work, ranging from a skeleton made out of milk jugs (which won first place) and ballerina made from old copper piping. It is amazing what you can make out of trash.

Recycling is going well on campus too. We are in week five of Recycle-mania and have recycled over 300lbs of plastic and aluminum. It is great to see the school increase the amount of waste recycled. When emptying the bags, it is amazing to think of all the bottles and cans going in the landfills.

Well I hope you guys all enjoy your week. I cannot wait to come back and share my experiences in Jamaica with you. This is all for me and until next time....cya later.

Purple 101

Hi everyone,

I hope you all are enjoying your week. This Thursday, Colleges Against Cancer is hosting Purple 101, an awareness day to get people signed up and ready to go for Relay for Life. Wednesday night, club members decorated the entire upper lobby of Cosgrave Center in purple. There were purple balloons, purple streamers, purple signs, purple stars...purple everything. The club then spent the lunch hours on Thursday getting people signed up for Relay. Relay for Life is the biggest event on campus and this is the Mount's sixth year participating in the nationwide event to help eliminate cancer.

MAC Goes Green was busy this week too. It was another week of recycling, plus we are getting things ready for our Eco-Expo/Art show; co-sponsored with SIFE. This event is designed to make people aware of the different businesses that are “going green and also to make everyone aware of how they can become environmentally friendly too. There are going to be a lot of informational handouts from numerous vendors, as well as some representatives from local businesses. We have great door prizes to give out as well. In addition, the school is at about 250lbs total for recycled aluminum and plastic. Our totals have been increasing each week and the campus is really taking part in helping the environment.

Another week has come and gone and only one more week until Spring Break! I hope you all enjoy your week and until next time....cya later.

Nice Weather

Hi everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed your week. We all had a very nice week of weather for the most part. It made the days go much better with not having to worry about freezing when walking from class to class. I even saw some people walking around campus in shorts and sandals. That might have been taking it to an extreme...but the weather was nice this week!

On Wednesday, we held a Caribbean Day for the school's trip to Jamaica. The cafe made Caribbean-type food. We had Caribbean theme music playing throughout the day. In the evening, we had mocktails, snacks, crafts and live entertainment. We also held a fundraiser to help raise money for the trip. The day went well and people seemed to enjoy themselves.

Another fundraiser we are doing is having a professor kiss a pig. We have a number of professors with jars and people put money in the person's jar they want to see kiss a pig. It is getting pretty close between a couple of professors, but it is going to be interesting once we get a winner.

Well, we had a nice week for Caribbean Day. It almost felt like we were in Jamaica...haha. I hope you guys all have an awesome week and until next time....cya later.

Super Six

Hi Everyone,

What a Super Bowl this year! I thought last year's game was awesome, but I think this year's was even more exciting. My team didn't make it, but it sure was a fun game to watch. I was even nervous when Pittsburgh was making their last drive to try and win the game and I don't even like the Steelers. Congratulations to all you Steelers fans.

Up here at Mount Aloysius, we are getting more snow and cold weather. However, the weekend looks promising as it is supposed to get up into the 40s. In a few weeks, I will be going on a service trip with the school to Jamaica. As a fundraiser, we sent letters home to all the parents of resident students asking if they would like to send their son or daughter a care package. This week, we delivered the ones for Groundhog Day. The students were surprised to get something from their parents. It is a great fundraiser and is really helping us reach our goal.

The rest of my week was filled with homework and studying, which is typical for your everyday college student...haha. Well this is all for me this week. I hope you all have an awesome week and until next time....cya later.
