"Painting Churches"

I saw the Mount Aloysius production of "Painting Churches" Saturday night. It was pretty good. It was Ms. Lydia Dabrawalsky's first major production and she created a wonderful finished product. It is sad that there were only two performances, but I guess that means that both shows would have strong attendance. Justin Cox played an older gentleman who was an award-winning poet who was losing his mind and Jen Barton played his wife that spent most of her days making sure he didn't hurt himself. They are in the process of moving when their daughter comes home for a visit. Jen and Justin were very funny together and had excellent chemistry. It was a funny show that had other emotional dynamics. There were sad points. The saddest for me was when Jen had to explain how bad Justin had lost his mind.

It was a good show. If you missed it, I guess you will have to get to the next one and see it twice to make up for this time.

Bishop Carroll Evening of One Acts

On Friday, I took Ashley to go see some One Act plays being performed at Bishop Carroll H.S. My dad directed four separate shows. All four had a Christian theme to them. They were nice. I think that my favorite one was the more modern show. Three of them were in a traditional biblical setting, so everyone was wearing robes and sandles or barefoot. The modern show was about an improv troop that wanted to perform a church service. The bulk of the story was about the characters arguing over what roles were performed by what. By the end, they decided that the preacher was the director, the congregation were the actors, and that God was the audience.

It was a nice evening out. I ended up staying at home for the evening.

MACbeth

I don't think that I say this enough. I love being an English major. It is the coolest. Almost any English class that needs a paper written, you can make the topic about anything that you want as long as you can make it relevant.

Anyway, the English Dept. took any English majors that wanted to go to see a production of Macbeth. It was really good. It was performed by five British people. With exchanges of different colored plaid sashes and extra props, they portrayed a diverse batch of characters.

I enjoyed it immensely.

Being appreciated

Monday night was a big deal on campus. The school was hosting its annual Presidential Appreciation Banquet and Ashley and I were invited. We go to rub elbows with some of the big cheeses from around the area. It was nice. I ran into some old friends like Colby, Sharp Cheddar, and my personal favorite Yellow American. No, in all seriousness, I got to say "Hi!" to Mr. Valenty from Valenty Bottled Water. To me, he is a very important figure. The dinner was for benefactors and students who recieved scholarships. Ashley and I recieved the same UPS Scholarship. We got to eat a nice meal provided by the friendly Metz Staff. At my table were Bill Harris, the County Commissoner, and Bill Wilkinson. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Joe Sheetz, knew the importance of time and completed the evening with his final speech and the dinner ended by 8:05 p.m.

Thanks Joe!
