My name is Jason Horton and I'm from Shrewsbury Massachusetts. I'm a member of Northeastern's Class of 2009, which makes me a senior or fifth-year student. I'm a Business Administration major with a concentration in accounting as well as a criminal justice minor. After I graduate, I would love to join the FBI as a forensic or investigate accountant. I have been on three co-ops with Deloitte and Touche where I've gained great hands-on experience that I was able to bring back to the classroom.

At Northeastern, I am involved in the Resident Student Association (RSA), which is the premier programming organization on campus, planning awesome programs for residents. This summer I am a member of the 2008 Orientation Team, serving as an Orientation Leader. I will also be a Resident Assistant starting this fall.

Co-op is in Full Swing!

Co-op started just a few weeks ago and I am already working over 55 hours a week! Because it is busy season for the accounting field, we are required to work at least 55 hours. This isn't that bad, as I do get paid time and a half for every hour over 40!

I am currently auditing mutual funds for MFS, which is a large financial services company located on Boylston Street in Boston. I am on a team with about 22 other people. There are 51 different funds that need to be audited in order for the financial statements to be released. The next couple of weeks are going to bring long hours and tired eyes. Busy season only lasts until early March, and then the required hours will drop down to 40.

I went on a road trip with some friends this weekend to Medieval Times in New Jersey. It was a great time. We went to New York City for the day on Saturday, and the show at Medieval Times was on Saturday night. It was a night full of eating with your hands and watching the knights battle in a tournament which included jousting on horseback.

Below is a picture of us before the show with our crowns!

Happy 2008!

New Years Eve in Boston was very fun as usual! My friend Katya and I spent the day walking around the city looking at the ice sculptures and went ice skating on Frog Pond in the Boston Common. There were thousands of people that attended the fireworks display over the Common, so it was very crowded.

This is a picture of Katya and myself on New Years Eve Day in front of Northeastern's Husky Ice Sculpture. Katya is also on the executive board of RSA.

I started back with Deloitte and Touche yesterday in their Boston office. This is going to be a long week of training, as this is my third co-op here and have already seen this training two other times. I'm in the process of speaking with managers that I worked for on prior co-ops and trying to get back onto their clients.

Back on campus, I still hold the position of VP for Finance in RSA. We are planning a full semester of events for students on campus. I will keep you updated throughout the semester of the events. But, right now we are planning the Northeastern Snowball on February 2nd. This was the 1,000 formal dance, almost like prom, that I spoke of in an earlier post. It will be held at the Marriot in Copley Square. There will be a cash bar for those that are 21+, a sit-down plated dinner, and an awesome DJ with lots of dancing!

Ok...back to work...I will update soon!
