My name is Jason Horton and I'm from Shrewsbury Massachusetts. I'm a member of Northeastern's Class of 2009, which makes me a senior or fifth-year student. I'm a Business Administration major with a concentration in accounting as well as a criminal justice minor. After I graduate, I would love to join the FBI as a forensic or investigate accountant. I have been on three co-ops with Deloitte and Touche where I've gained great hands-on experience that I was able to bring back to the classroom.

At Northeastern, I am involved in the Resident Student Association (RSA), which is the premier programming organization on campus, planning awesome programs for residents. This summer I am a member of the 2008 Orientation Team, serving as an Orientation Leader. I will also be a Resident Assistant starting this fall.

Busy Busy Week!

This past week was a very busy week at Northeastern. Room Selection, Resident Assistant Social, Valentine's Day, and a Sub-Regional Conference. Phew!

This past weekend was my weekend ski trip with friends from RSA. It was a great weekend away until we tried to return to Boston Sunday night. The roads were so snowy and slippery that it was unsafe to drive home, so we decided to stay another night and get up early to drive home Monday morning. We all returned safely and I even got to miss a half day of co-op!

Room selection for on-campus fall housing at the University also started this week. Each Spring, students are given lottery numbers, assigned randomly based on their year of graduation. When it's their turn to pick, they are allowed to log in online to a secure website and look at the different options that are still open. It's as easy as four clicks of a mouse and you're signed up for housing on-campus next year!

This past Wednesday was the RA Social. This is an event where all the candidates come together and get to speak to the different Resident Directors about the different buildings on campus. They will be notifying candidates on February 29th as to whether they received a position or not. I have my fingers crossed!

Valentine's Day was also last week. Many of the different Residence Halls had Valentine's programs. Some gave carnations, candygrams, or cards out to their residents and other halls had parties in their common areas with goodies and movies.

And last but not least, the Sub-Regional conference. This past weekend, the different RSA's from around the region came together at Northeastern for a conference. About forty students spent the weekend in round table discussions, eating lots of food, and ice skating on Frog Pond.

I also started on a new client this past week at Deloitte. I am now auditing a Hedge Fund located off the State Street T stop in downtown Boston. Its a new great experience and I'm excited for the weeks to come.

Please feel free to leave questions or comments and I'll respond to them in my next post!

Dancing the Weekend Away

February is here, and Puxsutayney Phil has declared six more weeks of winter! Boston is sure to get plenty of snowy days in the next few weeks- I can’t wait!

I can’t believe I am already one month into my co-op, but I am still enjoying it just as much as day one. Work is challenging, yet such a great experience that is helping me to understand my life goals.

While co-op has kept me extremely busy and my working days are long and tiring, I have found time to relax as well. This past weekend I danced the night away at the 3rd Annual Snowball that I spoke about in earlier posts. The event was sponsored by Resident Student Association and Student Alumni Association. Together, we planned a 1000 person formal dance that took place at the Marriot Copley, which is just a short walk down Huntington Avenue. The formal included appetizers, dinner and delicious desserts! The remainder of the night was spent dancing and mingling with other Northeastern friends and faculty.

This weekend, I will be heading off to the ski slopes to enjoy the winter weather with some RSA friends. With the prediction of six more weeks of winter, I am looking forward to our snowy outdoor adventure.
