My name is Jason Horton and I'm from Shrewsbury Massachusetts. I'm a member of Northeastern's Class of 2009, which makes me a senior or fifth-year student. I'm a Business Administration major with a concentration in accounting as well as a criminal justice minor. After I graduate, I would love to join the FBI as a forensic or investigate accountant. I have been on three co-ops with Deloitte and Touche where I've gained great hands-on experience that I was able to bring back to the classroom.

At Northeastern, I am involved in the Resident Student Association (RSA), which is the premier programming organization on campus, planning awesome programs for residents. This summer I am a member of the 2008 Orientation Team, serving as an Orientation Leader. I will also be a Resident Assistant starting this fall.

Spring is Finally in the Air!

It has been so nice to have an extra hour of sunlight in the afternoon, especially since I get out of work at seven and still am able to catch a few rays of sun while I walk home!

This past weekend was St. Patrick's Day in Boston- when everyone becomes Irish! My Residence Hall's Council sponsored a St. Patrick's Day breakfast on Saturday morning in the lobby of the hall, to kick off the weekend. There were celebrations all weekend, but the highlight is always the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade in South Boston.

Also, this past week was Restaurant Week in Boston. This is a week when numerous classy restaurants have a set menu for lunch and dinner at set prices of $22 and $33, respectively. My friends and I had a nice dinner at Flemings Steakhouse this past Thursday; which included soup, steak, potatoes, veggies, and cheesecake for $33! As college students, we sure couldn't' turn this great offer away.

In RSA, it's election season again for next year's Executive Board. This past week we elected the President and the Vice President for Housing Services. As proven by years past, it was another lengthy election. Although the meeting becomes time consuming, the General Council needs to be sure that they are electing the correct person for the position to lead the organization into a great new year. Tomorrow evening we will be electing the Vice President for Finance and the Vice President for Administration.

An exciting announcement was made this past week at Northeastern! With great anticipation, the student body is excited to hear that Ludacris will be performing along with The Roots at Northeastern's Annual Springfest concert on April 12th. Springfest is a week of events on campus sponsored by the Council for University Programs (CUP), another large programming body on campus. Although the event will be held in our largest venue, Matthews Arena, I'm sure tickets will sell out within hours!

As I wind down my busy semester of RSA and co-op, my friend Nicole and I have decided to treat ourselves to a weekend in Las Vegas- I can't wait to see the Vegas Strip and see all that the city (and casinos) have to offer!

My coffee break is over, and I am back to work, but as usual, if you have any questions about Northeastern, please feel free to post a comment and I'll get back to you or address it in my next blog!

Spring Break....on Co-op

Northeastern University's Spring Break is finally here. Unfortunately, those of us on co-op still have to work a full week! When choosing which co-op cycle you will be on, whether it be from January to June or July to December, don't forget, if you love being in the sun for Spring break, make sure to go on co-op in the Fall.

Luckily, the Co-Op Connections office here at Northeastern, managed by Sonya Mariotti, has an awesome week of programming planned for those on co-op. Last night I attended the Co-op Spring Break Kick-Off Event which had tons of free food and raffles for great prizes like Bruins and Celtics tickets. They also have events this week planned to the Boston Celtics, Bruins, and a night of cake decorating as well. The week is finished off by a nice relaxing Yoga event on Sunday.

I am still auditing like crazy at a Hedge Fund Client downtown. As this specific hedge fund job is beginning to wrap-up, I have also started on another client. This new client is on the 24th floor of a building located across from Logan Airport. My work station is in a glass conference room overlooking the airport; let me tell you, I find it VERY hard to stay focused. You can see every flight take-off and land at Logan, which is really amusing when I need a quick break from my work.

Now for some very EXCITING NEWS! I was offered a Resident Assistant (RA) position this past Friday, and I was placed in West Village G, which is an upper-class residence hall, housing mainly middlers, juniors, and seniors. I will begin RA training in the middle of August and my new residents will move back to campus in early September for Fall classes. I'm really excited for this amazing opportunity, and I know being an RA will definitely be a rewarding experience. I am most looking forward to planning programs for my residents and allowing them to engage in activities to build friendships. I am also thrilled to continue my leadership at Northeastern and help guide a group of students through their next two semesters as their friendly RA.

This past week was Sex Week at Northeastern. (Before you get nervous let me clarify that Sex Week is a fun-filled week of educational and engaging events.) This programming week is full of events sponsored by the Resident Student Association, along with several other student groups. Some of the events included; Greg Behrendt (author of He's Just Not That Into You and co-writer for Sex and the City), Lisa Lampanelli (The Queen of Mean and an insult comedian on Comedy Central), Condom Casino (a night of Vegas-style games), and David Coleman (Dating Doctor and America's Real-Life Hitch), and finally a night of speed dating. Overall, it was a busy and fun filled week of events to kick off Spring Break!

With a good majority of our school gone for break, I am happily relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet that our campus secretly holds.
