I just got the acceptance letter today! I am excited about my possible attendance to Northeastern as a Computer Science major. I am thinking of dual majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics.

I'm from Greenville, SC and got accepted as a psychology major! I'm really excited about Northeastern but I'm still trying to decide if it's the right place. It's really far from here and more expensive than my in-state choices, but I think NEU may be worth it! I do have one question: Originally I thought Co-op sounded like a good idea but now I'm not so sure. Do you feel like students get disconnected from school/school spirit/friends while there away? Thanks!

I got my letter a few days ago, but I found out online a while ago. Stumbled across this blog on the myNEU site and thought I'd leave a post. If you have facebook theres a group for all the accepted freshmen.

Congratulations Allison and Daniel!! Allison, to answer your question, it depends (I answered this in an earlier post and reposted my response). In my situation, most of my best friends are or have moved to the same co-op division as me. Some of my other friends who were not in my division are currently on co-op, but most of them are still living in Boston or Northeastern Residence Halls, so I can still see them. Therefore it hasn't been much of a problem. I think it is all in the eye of the beholder because I feel that 1) you will not be alone, and 2) you will somehow find a way to be connected even if a friend of yours is away. I also think the word half of the campus is strong. Certainly a lot of students do co-op, but not all students follow the traditional co-op model (some graduate in 4 years, some only have a summer co-op, etc.) I hope that best answers your question.

Hey Kenneth,
I am Chris from Ohio and I will be majoring in Computer Science as well. I'm not sure if I want to dual major in Business because I don't know if, as a freshman, I'll be overwhelmed with the workload or not. What can you say about the first year and dual majoring? Also, I have been shopping around for laptop computers. What would you recommend I get considering that I'll be majoring in Computer Science? Thanks for your help. Just shoot me an email when you have time.

Hey Chris, Congratulations on getting in!
Dual majoring can be tough, but it is definitely doable. I would think business is much easier than say biology with classes and labs. It all depends on how dedicated are you as a student and how much other commitments you have (for example, are you a part of a sports team that practices every night). As for a laptop, I am very fond of macs currently because Leopard is solid OS, and it just works...great for development. Plus you can also put windows or linux on it without a problem. If you are a gamer, I'd be leaning then towards the mac book pro for its graphics. Otherwise, any other PCs are just the same (I've had dell and been happy with them). I highly recommend a small laptop for ease in carrying around. I bought a 17 inch laptop and regret it to this day. Stay at 15.4 inches or lower. My two cents.
