In her latest novel, Geraldine Brooks, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and novelist, focuses on the mythical and historical trajectory of the Sarajevo Haggadah, a rare illuminated religious text. Brooks intertwines past and present in this great historical adventure. The book follows the novel’s main character, Hanna Heath, an Australian rare book expert, as she decodes the Haggadah’s secrets. This novel weaves together Hanna’s adventures in 1996 with the exciting histories of the tome’s past owners—charting a course that reveals the Haggadah’s mysterious origins.
The Washington Post praises People of the Book as “intelligent, thoughtful, gracefully written and original.

Description
Did you know that the roots of the cultural celebration of Carnevale are actually Italian?
Dating back to the 13th century, the festival of Carnevale hails from the northern Italian city of Venezia (Venice). Characterized best by the local saying that accompanies the festival, “A Carnevale Ogni Scherzo Vale- anything goes at the carnival; Venetians historically celebrate this event with parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, music, and parties. The rebellious nature of the festival is reflected in the many laws created over the centuries in Italy attempting to restrict celebrations and often banning the wearing of masks.
Come be part of this unique event to make your very own beautiful Venetian mask, learn more about the history of the festival, and enjoy some Italian food from the region.
Hope to see all of you at these events! Stay warm and have a nice weekend~
