Thanksgiving "Break"
Thanksgiving break seemed like an unreachable holiday break in early September, but alas, it has arrived. This semester of my second year has been filled with organic chemistry study problems and pictures of every inch of the human anatomy, from the humerus to the pyloric sphincter. All in all, this semester has been relatively manageable. Keeping on task has been the hardest struggle, but other than that this semester has been pretty enjoyable. From the first day of classes, I counted the class days until Thanksgiving as well as the days until Christmas break. It seems like I counted these days just yesterday, but as you will see, college life moves much faster than you could ever imagine.
I just finished my second physics test on Monday morning, (with a great sigh of relief) and then went to my physics lab at 2:00 in the afternoon. Upon completing this lab my holiday break began; six days of pure relaxation was my plan for the break. Meeting up with friends, eating too much food, and sleeping-in was all I was looking forward to. However, I knew in the back of my head that if I actually did this I would be behind in most of my classes. Thanksgiving came and went, and then came the work. I finished two lab reports on Thanksgiving night with a little football on the side. I began reading the assigned chapters for organic chemistry on "Black Friday." This supposedly relaxing break turned into the usual weekly struggle that is college. I know that in three weeks I will have a 24 day break for winter (I knew when and how long my breaks were before I knew where my physics class was) and this is when I will be able to truly relax. I also know that all the hard work of studying and writing lab reports will pay off.
After the first few days of my break had passed, I decided to take a full day off of worrying about school work and went out with my friends from back home. This was a great way to forget about school and just remember the stress-free high school days we used to spend together. Like all school breaks, weekends, and other days off, Thanksgiving break was over before I knew it. It was already Sunday night and I was starring into another fun-packed Monday 8:00am Physiology, 9:15 Physics, and 10:30 Jazz. This was all followed up by a 1:30 physics lab. I also knew that organic chemistry would consume the next 96 hours of my life as it usually does before a test. All of this did not bother me because I knew I would be able to review all the chapters in enough time, so I decided to watch the Patriots game like I do every week. Just a nice little three hour break from studying and worrying was a nice treat.
A nice little bit of advice I can say is that no matter how much work you have to do, you always have to make some time to relax and forget about school, because your body won't be able to keep up with you.
