My name is Neil Labak, and I'm a sophomore pharmacy student at Northeastern. I am from the small town of Belchertown in western Massachusetts. Although I came from a small, rural community, adapting to Boston was much easier than I had anticipated.

When I am not involved with my educational responsibilities, I enjoy watching and playing sports. In the future, I plan to pursue a degree in business as I would eventually like to travel the world as a biopharmaceutical salesman.

I am a member of a few student organizations which include NUHSP (Northeastern University Society of Health-System Pharmacists), NSCS (National Society of Collegiate Scholars), and ASHP (American Society of Health-System Pharmacists). I am also very active in Health Science Open Houses, and I interact with prospective students by speaking about various campus activities and experiences. Right now I am looking forward to my summer co-op in Boston.

Looking Forward

As the summer months slowly fade into the past, September and the classes that will ensue, have never seemed so close. With September, comes the excitement of a new apartment, pharmacy classes, and a whole lot of work. This will help me balance work, school, and real world responsibilities. The idea of living in my new apartment, (Back Bay Manor on Mission Hill) is something to look forward to. It is significantly nicer than my current apartment. It is in a high rise apartment complex with balconies and hardwood floors. All aspects of next years living arrangements will be better than my current living conditions. My class schedule is also set up in a very manageable manner. I have one class in the afternoon on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesdays and Fridays I have class from 9:30 to 3:30 straight. This schedule will open up the ability for me to work per diem at my current co-op job at Dana Farber. Although the semester will be packed full of work, studying, and classes, it will be the first true "pharmacy" semester of my career. After this fall semester of classes I get another break, in which I will co-op in the spring. This will hopefully keep my mind fresh which I will need for years 4-6. As for the next few weeks, I will anticipate going to Hampton Beach, an Eagles concert, and training for a 5 mile race in August.

If anyone has any questions about my co-op, or classes, or anything about my college experience thus far, please feel free to contact me or email me. My email address is labak.n@neu.edu
Have a good night!

July

As summer withers away, I am enjoying my co-op more and more every day. I cannot emphasis the terrific experience I have encountered in choosing Dana Farber as my co-op. My last few blogs have focused primarily on my summer work experience so I thought I would take a chance and take about all the opportunities there are in Boston during the summer months.
When I am not wearing scrubs, I am doing a variety of activities. Playing basketball at the Marino Center (the gym), tossing the football with friends along the banks of the Charles River, enjoying the various restaurants that the city has to offer, and also going to the beach; are just a few activities that I partake in during my time off from work. The freedom a co-op student has “off the clock” is awesome because there is no homework for co-op, no studying, and no reading. Once I am finished with my shift I have the ability to do anything imaginable. The summer is a time to be outside and to enjoy the nice weather. I have been fortunate enough to go to the beach a few different times and truly enjoy it. This really makes the work week fly by fast because it is so busy with events. With all of this said, I am somewhat anxious for September to begin. The excitement of taking real pharmacy classes intrigues me and learning about my major will be very interesting. I can’t wait to begin this time of my life because it will truly test my planning and responsibility toward school.

Have a good day!
