Exploration Blues
Major Exploration at OSU
“I can’t seem to make up my bed, much less my mind.
-Atmosphere
Being “Undecided sometimes feels like I’m sitting on a time bomb. Yes, it’s only the first quarter, but all my friends here seem so in line with their particular majors (business and international affairs mostly, smart kids) that I feel like I’m aimlessly wandering, squandering precious hours and thousands of dollars. It’s not that I’m completely unguided though. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. There are plenty of things here to channel students like myself into something they are interested in. Our survey class goes over all the available majors at OSU. There are fairs every week with booths set up and people to talk to about every field of study here. All of the information I could possibly want is available online. There are a boatload of supportive people, advisors, professors, etc. There are just so many things I love/ want to learn about/ want to be good at; how do they expect me to ever make a decision, let alone graduate in four years?!
I suppose I am not completely “Undecided then. I know what I like and don’t like, what I’m good at and not so good at, what I can see myself accomplishing. I just wish I could get past thinking about what jobs are eventually at the end of the line. I’ve been told so many times, “Do something you love, and the money will come.
So on that note, and because I have to start thinking about what classes I can take next quarter that will help me explore my interests and fulfill some GECs, these are things that I am interested in/ want to learn more about:
-baseball
-animals
-statistics
-more politics
-music theory
-orchestra
-world music
-world cultures
-sociology (and rural sociology)
-psychology
-anthropology
-turfgrass science
-french and other langs.
-economics
-environmental science
-creative writing
I’m going to end up double majoring and double minoring and not getting out of here for about 6 years.
GO BUCKS!

Hey ChiTown! I met you at the Buckeye Blogs event I believe. Hope you were able to take your parents to a nice place to eat that weekend! I think your blog about Exploration is really helpful for those who might not know exactly what they want to do either. It's good that you made a list of interests, who knows...a possible major could be there!
