Meal Swipe Mayhem
Working at a campus dining facility is a sweet job for many reasons, one of those being the free meal perks. But who knew that I would find myself with 87 mealswipes to burn with fewer days left in the quarter than I can count on two hands? Seeing as 150 mealswipes and a $100 BuckID deposit at the beginning of the quarter cost $1240, that puts each swipe at about $7.60. Swipes do not carry over to next quarter. Therefore, if I don’t somehow eat 87 meals in the next 8 or so days, I will be wasting over $600 of my parents’ money. Ouch. Very ouch. There are several quasi-solutions to this problem, however.
1) The Blackwell is the hotel on campus. They have a fancy restaurant that takes meal plan. Just to give you an idea, steaks run for about 8 swipes. I am taking 3 of my guy friends there next week. My goal is to burn at least 40 swipes on an assortment of appetizers, seared meats, and delectable desserts. I hope they bring their appetites.
2) The Marketplace on Neil has a plethora of groceries. Also, something that’s real big right about now is getting cases of drinks (vitamin water, powerade, etc.) for about 5 swipes. I still have at least 13 “grocery swipes and some thirsty buds. Or I could just stock up on quarts of Coldstone ice cream and boxes of Cheez-its. That’s always an option.
3) P.A.D. (Pizza at the Drake) is the pizza and wings delivery service for meal swipes. Large pizzas are 2 swipes. I might just have to throw a pizza party for the guys floor in my dorm.
4) Swipe for my friends who are out of swipes. Boring, but works for small quantities of swipes.
5) Eat 7+ meals a day at the expense of my health/ figure.
6) Sell swipes on eBay or Facebook marketplace? I wish.
I’m 97% sure I will not be able to use all these swipes. If I do, well, it will be a miracle. Mom and Dad, I am sorry I wasn’t hungrier this quarter. At least I can be sure to save some money next year by dropping down to the 100-swipe plan.
GO EAT!
And GO BUCKS!

I'm having the same problem. I'm leaving Tuesday and I have over 70 swipes left. I'm thinking buying a ton of pizza from the PAD is the best option. I mean, it's not like I'm wasting anything even if they don't get eaten. Plus I'm helping the economy. :-)
