Hold Your Horses...Literally
Some very drowsy horses.
I feel kind of gross; I smell slightly like a barn and hay and a baby horse. But I feel pretty good. I signed up to be a “foal sitter before winter break, and finally my time has come. All “foal sitting entails is keeping baby horses from laying on their sides while they recover from illnesses or surgery or whatever other ailments bring them to the vet hospital on campus. If they aren’t kept sternal, as they call it, they have problems breathing, which is bad. So basically I just spent the previous two hours of my life in a stall at the vet hospital with a 2-3 day old foal on my lap. It had a buncha tubes and stuff. And it was pretty sleepy and generally very unexciting but very cute. The momma horse was there too. In general, this rates as one of the more unusual things I’ve done at THE Ohio State University. And I get paid to do it. Definitely worth it. Hopefully though, the foal makes a speedy recovery, and I won’t have to go in next week.
GO BUCKS!
