Casimir Pulaski Day
“In the morning in the winter shade on the first of March on the holiday… - Sufjan Stevens
Chicago, IL is known as the most Polish city outside of Poland. Casimir Pulaski was a Polish general in the Revolutionary War and all school children get the first Monday in March off of school to recognize this character. I admit I really have no idea about Casimir Pulaski, nor do I celebrate his deeds, and I’m even Polish. What I did enjoy about the holiday was getting school off. Obviously, that is different this year. But my mom, being a school teacher in Illinois still gets to celebrate this holiday and is thus coming to visit me this weekend. What this means for me:
-I will actually have to get up early aka before noon.
-I get to go shopping! I’ve been putting off buying things like vitamins and laundry detergent and snackies for about a week.
-Delicious eats. The best part about parents coming to visit (besides, of course, seeing your parents) is that they are basically required to take you out for a non-meal plan meal or two or three.
-She’s taking me to the movies.
-And making me work out with her at the RPAC.
-And go to a yoga class with her.
-And go to church with her.
-And have a jolly time.
Basically I’m going to have a very busy, very productive weekend courtesy ma mère.
GO PULASKI!
