Council Dismissed

It's my last Hall Council tonight. This has been a unique experience. We basically vote on where the residence hall's money goes and what programs are done. The RAs are there as a group, and at least one student representative from each floor (mine has the most, 4, which can be very annoying since I never agree with the 3 of them on anything).

Actually, the group pretty much votes "yes" on everything, since we have more money than we need for quarterly programs so we never run out. This means that people become apathetic and no longer have important conversations and debates about the issues. We all just start voting "yes" and try to get out of there as soon as possible.

I'm basically the loud mouth of the group...I always have to have a comment about everything. Trust me, people find this often annoying. But once there was a program I really didn't agree with giving money to, and I was afraid to speak up. The RA next to me said "It's ok to be a jerk about it. This is about doing what's best for the Complex." I felt a lot better that I had said something about it. (It still passed, but less people voted "yes," which is a start).

I actually felt like I made a little bit of a difference, being able to get in my two cents this year. Hopefully in my future years in Hall Council, there will be a little more enthusiasm involved in the role. It really makes all the difference.
