Honored to be your student...
Although I’ve spent the entire quarter complaining about the difficulty of my Economics H200 class, I also recognize that I’ve learned more and been challenged more to succeed than in any other class I’ve taken at Ohio State.
John Kagel, our professor who drives us all crazy in class to the point where we actually learn something, was honored this week. Gordon Gee, the Provost, the Dean, and a bunch of other folks from the Econ department, including a few Graduate students, suddenly came into our classroom one day this week, along with a camera crew and a few photographers. Gordon Gee shook Mr. Kagel’s hand and said “Hello, I’m the President of this University, and Mr. Kagel responded, “Yes, I know. He was being honored for all his hard work and contributions to the department. They gave him a $3000 check and extra stipend money for his research, and everyone gave a little speech. Gordon Gee hinted that Mr. Kagel could let us out of class for the day to celebrate, but of course, Mr. Kagel wouldn’t hear of it.
Despite all my complaints and struggles, I’m proud to be in Mr. Kagel’s class. He is so intelligent in the field of Economics, and I really appreciate his patience with us Econ newbies, and his passion to make us understand the importance of Economics in everything. All in all, probably the best professor I’ve had thus far.

I'm taking econ 505 with Kagel spring quarter, and reading this has made me very excited. I've heard great things about the class and now I'm hearing great things about the professor. My electrons are practically ionizing from excitement. :-)
