It's 2008: Open Your Mind
For those of you who don’t know, I’m a bit of a political nut…particularly so in the past year. So I went to an event this week, Women in Politics Forum, hosted by OSU College Dems. County Commissioner Mary Jo Kilroy, Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson, Senator Sue Moreno, and Senator Teresa Fedor spoke on the difficulties of proving oneself as a politician, a male-dominated career. They talked about getting criticism about the amount of time they give to their families, even now in 2008. They all agreed it is much more difficult to fundraise successfully as a woman. It was discerning to hear about all the obstacles they face as elected officials. Albeit a generalization, I find women in political positions to often be stronger than their counterpart men. It’s frustrating that the public makes circumstances so difficult for someone who is working to help the people.
Super Tuesday is this week. I’m very excited…excited enough to get up at 6 am when news coverage starts? We’ll see…like I said in my last entry, life gets in the way. But if anyone’s interested, The Faculty Club is hosting an event from 7-10pm with political experts analyzing the results, and the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council (which I would love to be a part of) is also hosting a results party from 7:30-10:30 in Page Hall. May the best man/woman win!
