Letting your words take you places...

Ok, so here’s some exciting news. RHAC (Residence Hall Advisory Counsel) RHAC (Residence Hall Advisory Counsel) and Buckeye Readership (the folks who make sure we have the New York Times, USA Today, and the Columbus Dispatch available in every residence hall every day) got together to create a little competition. It was a chance for students to write a letter to the editor of one of these papers. Whoever got it published first would win a trip to the place that newspaper was published. So, I gave it a shot. The first day, I wrote a letter to the Columbus Dispatch in response to an article about Governor Ted Strickland’s education plans. That one ended up getting published online later in the week. The next day, I wrote one to USA Today in response to an article about Evangelical leaders who don’t go to church. I kind of gave up after that, because with midterms I didn’t really have time to think about letter-writing. Then, I got the call from USA Today that my letter was going to be published! It was published last Monday…it’s on the RHAC website. And the reason it’s on the RHAC website is because I won the trip to Washington, D.C.! One of my residents saw the website and told me in the hallway and I flipped! My article also stirred up some online debates on chat boards, which was actually kind of exciting. Behold the power of words.
