Valued Beliefs

This week in my Political Communication class, John Kasich, Congressman from Ohio and the host of "The O’Reilly Factor and of “Heartland with John Kasich at Fox, visited our class for a guest lecture. I have to admit, I was close-minded at first. My political opinions differ greatly from Mr. Kasich’s, and I have some strong opinions against Fox news as well.
But Mr. Kasich really took all the theories that have been drilled into our heads as Communication students, and showed how they are used in the real world. He both asked for and listened to our opinions as students, specifically making sure to ask for a diverse sample of opinions. He was honest about the way news works at the Fox network, and he defended everything he did or thought.
This is one of the best speakers I’ve heard during my time at Ohio State. No matter what his views, he has well-informed beliefs and works everyday to do what he thinks will better our country. These are values I greatly respect and that anyone can truly take to the bank, no matter what their views may be.
