Painting the Town Red

I’m going to see Billy Joel perform at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus this weekend! I’m kind of a fanatic. But it will also be good to hit up downtown…I love campus, but there’s so much more going on in Columbus! Just last week I went with some Bradley/Paterson residents to see the musical Avenue Q at the Palace Theater. It’s so beautiful there! I have many other favorite places downtown, such as the Statehouse. I toured there once last year, and it was amazing! It’s a magnificent building and it’s really cool to see how the Columbus government works. I’m also a big Goodale Park fan. That’s where I ended my Earth Day 5k I ran last year. I was so shocked when I saw it; I couldn’t believe I had been living in Columbus all this time and didn’t know it existed! And how can anyone forget dining and shopping in the Short North…very classy! I always recommend to OSU students to get off campus some weekend and check out our fine city!

OSU Stressed Out!

So a little advertisement…apparently on Tuesday Ohio Staters, Inc. will be putting on an all-day event called "Best Day of Your Life". I guess it’s a series of interactive events that will inform students about suicide and depression. There’s going to big prizes and OSU celebrities…oh, who could they be?? This should be good….

And apparently stress is a big focus this week because next Friday the RPAC is hosting "Kick Back at the RPAC". Well, it is National Stress Out Week, so I guess this all makes sense…right in time for midterms. Anyway, the RPAC will be having free massages, a petting zoo, stress reduction kits, and a photo booth with Brutus. I’ll definitely be there…I’ll need a massage by Friday!

A New Perspective

It’s been quite rewarding for me to talk with the RA candidates for this year. Current RAs help run the Building Information Fair so future RAs can decide where they might want to work. Also, three prospective RAs are shadowing me and we are doing a program together. Plus in general, RA candidates seek current RAs out to answer questions and alleviate concerns.
I am always happy to pass on what I have gained from this job. I remember very well how intimidating it was to be in their position. Talking to them has really allowed me to realize how much I have grown in this job. When I think about when I was an RA candidate, I realize how much confidence and experience I have gained. I am proud to have grown so much in just one year. But that seems to be a theme of college life.

The Real World

This quarter has been killing me, what with the internship, new involvements, and particularly hard classes. On top of that, I’m getting ready for my big summer of living on my own. I’m subleasing a friend’s room in her house by Target. It’s been an interesting process to work out the lease, find a nearby job, and figure out how I will work transportation to both the internship and the job without a car.
Off-Campus Student Housing Services is a life-saver, by the way. You can sit down with a lawyer or law student and they’ll give you advice and review your lease for free. They also provide video taping services for your new place and roommate services.
This experience has given me a lot of real life skills. Now only if I could finish my taxes by Tuesday. This is all too “adult for me!
