Processing Development
We meet the new RA staff for next year this weekend. I’m really excited to be a leader on staff and a seasoned veteran next year. Being a newbie was fun, but I’m happy to have some experience under my belt. I think it will really give me confidence within the position.
However, I still have a long list of things to work on. That’s the great thing about this job that not many student jobs have…personal development. And I’ve developed more than I could ever imagine.
We have one-on-ones with our senior staff every week. This gives us a chance to not only talk about how our floor is doing, but how we are individually performing within the job and our lives. It’s the first time I’ve really been able to make connections within my personal life and my professional life. And, like I talked about earlier from my scholarship ceremony, success in one’s personal life is essential for success in one’s professional life. It is all so interconnected, and it is so beneficial to reflect on this. I think this should be required for every job.
Hopefully I will continue my professional development over the summer, because it’s definitely an ongoing process. If not, I have a whole other year and a whole new group of housing staffers to learn from.
