Disconnected
During summer, the e-mail me and my fellow students receive is at an all-time low….I would say for me maybe one a day on average, and that’s because I think I’m on a lot of e-mail lists. Even the Facebook activity subsides, as people are on vacations or working or really just have nothing to say. For someone like me who checks e-mail constantly, this can be a system shocker. Checking e-mail and Facebook a few times an hour like I did during school is a pointless waste of time now (well, it actually also is during the school year, but at least then I’m procrastinating on my homework).
So I’ve been trying to cut some of this out of my life. I set up my Facebook to inform me via e-mail if anyone wrote on my wall or anything, so I try only to check it when there is actually something to check (which isn’t often). I’ve also cut down on my e-mail checking and online chatting. Instead, I make more phone calls to people I want to chat with, and I go to online news websites that I used to not have time for, instead of Facebook.
Still, I can’t help but feeling slightly disconnected from the online social networking world. And sometimes, that an incredibly relieving feeling.
