Late at night you can hear the sound.

I had just gotten back from hanging out with my Park Hall friends last night when I got back to Lincoln on the quiet side of campus. Swiped my card, took the elevator to my floor, turned the key in my door, and sat down in my chair. I was bored, and I wasn’t ready to be home. So I got up and left to wander campus—at 2 a.m.

I didn’t know where I was going, but I love walking. Campus is incredible at night; even where you wouldn’t expect it. So few people are out, and I was probably the only one out just walking. I walked up 17th to the Oval—saw no one. And I made my way farther east, all the way to High Street.

There are two sides to High Street: the campus side, where you can feel safe at any hour of the night, and the noncampus side, where you might want to be careful who you cross—but I love that side. Especially at night. When people probably aren’t as sober as they should be. It’s exciting. I walked up and down High Street a few times, just taking in the sights and sounds and being a part of the city.

I eventually came home to Lincoln. And when I did, I felt so much better. And I can’t wait to do that again. Just some alone time with Columbus at 2 in the morning. Nothing beats that. Nothing beats the nighttime.
