I want to touch the other side.

The weather today was unusually warm. I take that back—no weather can be described as “unusual” at any time in Ohio, because that would strip the word unusual of all its meaning. So it was warm today. Warm enough to go outside in short sleeves and shorts to play Frisbee or jog to the Oval or explore random buildings on campus.

My suitemates and I had to do something outside—it was too nice not to. So we decided to play ultimate. Only, we couldn’t find enough people to play. So we took what we could and headed to the field just outside Lincoln, played for a while, and then were kicked off because we apparently weren’t allowed to be playing there anyway. So we decided to head to the Oval.

We jogged. To the Oval, we jogged. It was farther away than we thought. But no matter—we got there and played more Frisbee until it was too painful to catch any more powerful throws.

And then we decided to explore random buildings. So, Frisbee in hand, we went up to buildings that looked old or interesting or creepy and went inside. Mostly, we tried to to get on the roofs or into the basements. We tried to get into the turret of Orton, but it was locked, of course. But we did get onto the roof of the Knowlton, the architecture building, and sat on the metal chairs there. Not as uncomfortable as they looked, but still, they were metal.

Knowlton is pretty awesome. Supposedly it’s one of the best unofficial residence halls on campus. I hear that architecture students spend at least one night in that building before they graduate. I saw someone sleeping while we were there. They all have their own little desks in a cubicles-minus-separators sort of arrangement. We kind of stared at them for a while from the balcony and left when they started to overnotice our presence. I’m envious of them; they looked like they were having fun doing what they loved to do. The place smelled like Home Depot, though. Not a smell I like all that much.

Then we had a bit of a scare because we thought the soft-serve ice cream machine at River Café was broken. But I guess they got it fixed before we used it, because it kind of worked—but only the vanilla. And it made loud, angry noises that made me slightly scared and doubtful of its ostensible icy-goodness-giving intentions. But when it’s all-you-can-eat soft-serve, you really do eat all you can eat. With sprinkles, because they just got those a few weeks ago. Now if only they had chocolate so I could make a twist…
