Back to The Grind

Winter quarter is here in full swing. This is the shortest quarter of the year but it really feels like the longest. Try to stay warm this quarter by grabbing some starbucks at Oxley's by The Numbers and making sure you bundle up. There are still alot of fun programs going on this quarter. Check them out, especially the ones with free food. With the cold hitting us hard, we should have plenty of time to study since we're not playing frisbee in the oval too much. Some good places to study are The Younkin Success Center and The Hale Center on south campus, Morrill Tower on west campus, Royer Living Room on north campus, and of course all of the libraries. Have a safe and productive winter quarter and GO BUCKS!!!

Holiday Season Choices

As I was talking to a lot of OSU students the few days before our illustrious Thanksgiving break I recieved a lot of opinions from students on holiday shopping. Now being in college, a lot of students have loans and are in debt (good debt that is) when it comes to their education. On the other hand I have noticed a lot of my fellow buckeyes falling into BAD DEBT. That's right, the free sandwich that got you a credit card... that got you a computer... that got you hooked on ebay... that got you in debt with the card because you couldn't pay it off... that got you in deep deep trouble. It is sad when you think about it but many college students are not managing money properly and are gaining a lot of financial freedom very quickly. Why all the criticism you say? Well I just wanted to remind the students or anyone who gets the chance to read this blog to be a little smarter about holiday shopping this year, especially for yourself. I know it can be very tempting to buy an Xbox 360 with that new shiny plastic but be careful because it can catch up to you real quick. It gets hard sometime being in college especially when you don't have family that just sends you loads of money whenever you need it. So this year let's be a little more financially savvy when it comes to spending money. Be wise in your decisions and logical with your choices. So have a safe and happy Black Friday and good luck with your shopping!

Getting Acquainted…

The first few days of college we’re quite challenging. Coming to a enormous school like The Ohio State University is a big adjustment from a high school of just over 1,200. Now I am surrounded by 50,000 college students yearning for a degree to illustrate not only formal schooling, but true education as well. Besides getting lost trying to find out where 209 W. 18th Ave. is located so I can go to my first survey class meeting, my first week of classes were quite interesting. I realized a lot of things in only about 6 days of being at Ohio State. Some of the things I have grown to accept are I don’t speak as much Spanish as I thought, I’m not going to be driving my car for a while :,,(, and all the other freshmen are in the same position as me. After becoming slowly but surely acclimated to the university, I know I will be able to get past all the anxiety or concerns of leaving home for Ohio State. I feel I’m beginning to have a personal relationship with Ohio State and me and the school are becoming better acquainted day by day.

Black Males Early Arrival Program

My first day at Ohio State was welcomed by students from the Bell Resource Center for Black Males. I arrived on September 13, for an early arrival program for incoming black male freshmen. The program was created to help with the transition to Ohio State and to provide us with as much information as possible and resources that will help us in all aspects of our college experience. We attended interesting workshops in the historic Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center about study abroad, the MSLC, study habits, and time management just to name a few. I personally made a lot of good friends from the program and felt a lot more confident about the start of my freshman year here at The Ohio State University. There were so many resources and help right here on campus that I could utilize to my advantage. Speaking of which, I still need to go to the Younkin Success Center to start on a résumé. All in all, the entire program was as fun as it was informative. We ended our early arrival experience with a tailgate party watching the Buckeyes smash Washington 33-14!
