Computer Woes

This may be by FAR, the worst time length between my blog entries. I am ashamed. BUT, I will say that I haven't been able to use my laptop for about a week and half because it's sick. After gnashing my teeth for a couple of days with trying to get my computer to work to do the most simplest of tasks (like start), decided to take it to the Buckeye Bar. The Buckeye Bar is a cool place where you can get help--whether it's advice on what kind of computer to get, how to set up wireless, or if your computer just all around stinks.

My consultant was pretty nice and very helpful. It turned out that my baby was really sick with a broken fan, a worn-out battery, and a broken mouse pad. How did this happen?! I can understand the battery issue, but the other things? Do I beat my computer in my sleep? I've been so busy that I have yet to go and get the supplies that I need. Curses! Until then I will try my best to blog where ever I can.

I Love My Rezzies!

If you didn't know already, I am a Resident Advisor. Considering that I like to talk (alot) and be a mentor to others among other things, you could say that this is a pretty cool gig for me to have. Today I had a a wing program with my ladies decorating out shower curtains. It was a lot of fun! I was quite happy that 17 out of 23 residents showed up--it must have been the queso and chips! Regardless of their motivation to participate, we have all agreed that our bathroom is pretty slick now. ;-D.

Halloween High Ball

Well, first off I feel that I must apologize for my lack of communication. :-(. This happens way more often than I like.

Anyway, last night was a lot of fun. I participated in the Short North's Halloween HighBall as a fashion assistant. I got an email through my college and at first I thought Hmm, this looks interesting but too busy. However, after having the event continually pop in my mind, I thought What the heck--how could a couple hours at the Short North during Halloween really be thought as a waste of time? It promised to be a lot of fun with costume contests, a live dj, and other fun events, so I decided it would be worth it.

So I went. I even showed up a half hour early as an indication of my eagerness. I expected to be immediately whisked away in a hurricane of models, designers, and event coordinators but it wasn't like that...after first. In fact it was a lot of sitting around. Quite boring (almost considered sneaking home).

But I stayed like the faithful human being that I am, and by doing so I was rewarded in time. Meandering near the models makeshift dressing room in the back of an artsy furniture store, I was quickly assigned the task of steaming this huge white tulle skirt-thing. I had never steamed before, but I forgot think of that as being an issue until the steamer was in hand (...and why didn't I think about this before?!). Then I quietly panicked.

After the assistance of a nearby model, I managed the task but swore secretly that I would never where tulle again. Then after that was done, there was more waiting. That is, until Terri from project runway showed up (both her and Kelli were the featured desin. Immediately I was pretty much her assistant. I steamed a dress, lint rolled her pieces, assisted her models dressing and escorted them to a store near the stage. As soon as the show started, I was helping out the event coordinators with keeping the show organized.

It was pretty much a blast.

Lovely week

I must say that I had a pretty effective week looking back. I meant to blog about this earlier, but as you probably understand now, I have moments when I'll report something that happened a day, a week, or even a month ago.
Tuesday evening I helped out the CNN coverage of the presidential debates with the focus group at Orton Hall. I volunteered with two other ladies, Lauren and Sarah, and our responsibilities were mainly to facilitate the arrival of the focus group members to Orton Hall as smoothly as possible before the debate. I had more fun than I expected! I didn't know that Soledad O'Brien would be there, and when I saw her on my way to the snack table at the Faculty Club I almost didn't believe it. I managed to get a picture with her! And to top it all off, we were invited to be a part of the focus group Wednesday, so stayed tuned for that!

Also, Saturday I went to the President's Brunch at the Mershon Auditorium, which celebrated the Andy Warhol exhibit, Other Voices, Other Rooms. I was invited because I am the Vice President of the Wexner Student Council. It was pretty awesome too! There was a performance by the cheerleaders, the pep band, and the Men's Glee Club. Notable attendees were President Gordon Gee and John Glen. There were a few great speeches--and I would say hats down President Gee's speech while donning a Andy Warhol wig was by far the most memorable. One other cool thing was the free food--specifically the cake in the shape of the infamous Campbell Soup can that Warhol was famous for.

And to top it all off later that night I was able to go out to my favorite restaurant with Chris and hang out at his apartment and watch our favorite TV show on DVD.

What a lovely week. :-D.

The Weekend is...No more

Well, my weekend is pretty much done. :-( I had such a fun time this weekend! Friday night I watched a movie with a few R.A. friends from my building. We watched A Walk to Remember, I know that I embarrassed myself with crying nearly hysterically every other scene. Saturday, like I mentioned in yesterday's blog, I went to gallery hop again with a few R.A. friends and had a blast, watched the OSU vs. Wisconsin game on a projector screen with my hall, and went out with my boyfriend, Chris. Chris and I went to Cazuela's, which is by far one of the BEST places near campus to get Mexican food. It's pretty sad how often we go there (they know who we are!). But some habits are better left unbroken.

Right now I'm in the midst of preparing myself for this week of classes, club meetings, etc. and finishing up the the homework I've done today. Here are a few things that I plan on doing this week:
1.)Polish my resume and create a cover letter
2.)Go to a General Mills Information Meeting and Lunch
3.)See the movie Under the Same Moon
4.) Go to the Study Abroad Fair and Global Fest

Even though I'm sad the weekend is over I am looking forward to all the things I will be doing this week!

October Gallery Hop!

Well, I just got back from today's Gallery Hop and it was uh-mazing! The Gallery Hop is a community event that happens at the Short North the first of every month where the galleries and stores open up their doors to extended hours, djs and musicians are playing music everywhere you turn and restaurants are packed with patrons. I had few more reading assignments today to get through, but I just could not resist when my friends invited me out. The last time I went, I was completely engrossed in the hoards of people travelling the sideswalks, the smells of food from restaurants like Happy Greek flowing into my nostrils, and chills I would get passing a musician finishing an intense piece on a violin. However, I found myself really wishing that I buy a lot of the artwork I saw tonight, which is close to impossible ( I saw one piece that was equivalent to a year's tuition here!). The only thing that could console me were the platter of cheese and crackers waiting on every table of every gallery.

One of my favorite places at the Short North is the Global Gallery, which is a store filled with fair-trade goodies. There you may find chocolate from South America or a cd compilation of Celtic music. There are so many items that you may not see anywhere else! Another cool fact about the Global Gallery is that the Executive Director, Connie Dejong is also the Arts Scholars Coordinater for Ohio State. Isn't that awesome?

Case of the Mondays

I know that everyone has had a least one case of the Mondays. The day just seems to drag, no matter how much sleep you got the night before you're still exhausted, you're a bit cranky, etc.,etc...Well my friends, I have self diagnosed myself as having had the case of the Mondays.

I'm not saying that it was a horrible day. My classes were interesting (and I didn't fall asleep in them although I was tired). My classes ended early around 1:30 pm, which is a great schedule. However, I have doing things nonstop after classes. I had to find time to study, eat lunch, fit sometime with my boyfriend, Chris, before a Wexner Usher Orientation/Meeting from 6:00-8:00 pm, a quick walk to Mirror Lake for dinner and then another two hour meeting RA staff meeting at 9:00 pm. I was so extremely busy!

I am excited about being a Wexner Center for the Arts usher this year. I really wanted to make a commitment to attend more events given by the Wex because they are usually once-in-a-lifetime type of events. Being an usher gives a me an opportunity to accomplish that goal in a more structured way and also to contribute to one the most unique institution on campus (and in the nation). As an usher I get a few perks like discounts, getting into events for free through volunteering, and getting paid for x amount of hours I contribute over time. I signed up for a few good ones, so I will definitely let you know all about them when they happen! :-D

oUAB Welcome Week Concert!!!

It has literally been a couple of hours since my last entry but I just got back from the OUAB Welcome Week Concert and had to talk about it! The concert is one of the biggest events on Welcome Week's list of events because it brings several huge and on-the-rise musical acts across the nation.

I remember my first year seeing Rihanna as was one of the acts literally in my back yard on the south oval and being so excited. OUAB did not disappoint this year. We the Living, Billy Currington, Circa Survive, and last but not least, The ROOTS were there to perform. Because I had a lot of stuff to do today (ex. floor program), I wasn't able to listen to most of the acts. I did make sure to see The Roots, which was the ending act. They were amazing! :-D.

On the First Day of School, OSU Gave to Me...

Well, it has a week since classes have started and needless to say, it was VERY busy! As could be expected, there were tons and tons things to do during the first week, "Welcome Week". When I was not doing things for my Resident Advisor position, preparing for classes, cleaning my room, or hanging out with friends, I managed to go to a few events.

Monday I went to Drums and Dough, which was a Multicultural Center sponsered event located on the Lincoln Tower Park Turf Fields. As a RA I was required to go to this event and I only intended to stay for a few minutes but I ended up staying way longer than that! The event was a exploration of cultures through music, dance, and...bread. I tried this steamed dumpling stuffed with turkey, which was interesting. President E. Gordon Gee was there and I actually got to chat with him for a while, which was great!

Tuesday I did Community Commitment. I must confess, it was hard waking up at 5:45 am to get ready as site leader for the volunteer project! This year Community Commitment focused on child advocacy issues like equal access to to education. There was an excess of site leaders like myself, so I ended up in a group of them. We went along the Olentangy beautifying the area. Even though by the end I was exhausted, I had so much fun and made some really cool friends.

On Tuesday I also went to the Wexner Center Student Party and Outdoor Film. I am involved with the Wexner Center Student Council, so I volunteered that day. If you don't know, this from September to February the Andy Warhol exhibit will be here at the Wexner! That night was just a party to celebrate this exciting opportunity with the students with free food, shirts, Wii, exhibit tours and a film--it was a blast!!!

There were so many fun things that I did that week, that it would be pretty long if I wrote about all of the them. I am so grateful that there are exciting things like Welcome Week for students to get us pumped for a new, fun year. :-D.

Weekend Recap

Soooo,
By now you guys should know that I'm currently in Columbus (I moved in last friday) for Resident Advisor training. It has been going very well, but it is extremely jammed packed with so many things. I have to wake up a little after seven am and I am not done for the day until seven or eight pm. Any down time I may have is usually spent working on preparing for my residents to come and completing assignments given to me by my Hall Director.

This weekend has been such a blur because I have been sooo tired! I meant to wake up early Saturday morning but I overslept! I got to hang out with a friend at Panera and Urban Outfitters---you KNOW how I feel about Urban Outfitters!

Today my early arrival resident moved in! It was pretty exciting because I was sick of having the floor to myself. I have about seven or eight more residents coming early--some for the OWL program. In fact, half the floor will be here before sunday, which is the official move-in day. How exciting! ;-D.

Day Two of Training

Well, I'm here on campus!

I moved in on Sunday and I'm pseudo-moved in. It's been really hard to fully move in because my schedule is sooooo jammmed packed. But since I have such high expectations for this year, it's only fair that I be consistent.

Today was day two of Resident Advisor training and I talked about alcohol and drugs. Even though I heard pretty much all of it before, it was nice to refresh my memory of all the policies. Yet I must confess, maybe I did have a little eye droopiness and maybe, just maybe my head bobbed a little too. I stayed up til 1:00 am the night before, do door decs (for you, for you!!!) because there are so many other things to do---room condition reports, early arrival prep, floor prep, talking to housekeeping, reading, etc., etc.

I'll get through it.

One of the best things about training is bonding with the staff. As a returner, I was curious about how I would bond with my staff the second time around. I can honestly say that I love my staff. I think that we fit very well together. I am especially excited to work with my co-RA, Philip. I think it's going to be a year. ;-D.

How Far I've Come

Today I was looking through most of my blog entries from last summer and it was so weird.

Ha. Let me take a moment to meditate on how truly eloquent that sentence was. Continue.

Sarcasm aside, I really felt like I was reading entries from another person. Do know that feeling? Whether it's a page in a journal, a letter, even a facebook wallpost from a year ago--doesn't a part of you ask yourself "Who was that person?” Do you automatically think about how far you've come?

I just did. Last summer had plenty of ups and downs. I was stuck home sometimes bored out of mind, but somehow had enough enthusiasm for the future while excited about the little things that happened day to day. I was sooooo thrilled about starting my job as a Resident Advisor and preparing for training. I was so happy about my first concert and landing that job...

And the most rewarding entry I read today was about my schemes for next summer. One of the possibilities I talked about was becoming an Orientation Leader for Ohio State. At the time, it seemed like a lofty goal because it’s a very competitive process. But after accomplishing that goal, I feel so much pride and boost of confidence--like I can do ANYTHING!

Speaking of which, I need to channel that attitude as I get ready for the 5th! Tomorrow, I'm heading off to Columbus with my mom and sister to start R.A. training once again. I haven't really talked about it, but I'm really excited. I just got to work on those door decs....;-D.

Home is Where the Food is.

Unlike last weekend, this weekend was very family oriented. I have been staying with my youngest Aunt Nikki and her family for a couple of days. I moved mostly because I needed a break from living with my only sister--some things you just don't miss after a few years of college! Conveniently, my Nikki was preparing for what she called a "seafood boil"--a culinary term I had never heard of before. Yet as soon as I got a whiff of what was in the pot, I was ready to undo my ignorance.

A number of people came, grandmothers, uncle and aunt so-and-so with plenty of crying children numbers 1-10. Did I mention the food was good? My aunt threw potatoes, onions, celery, green peppers, crabs, clams, scrimp and sausage in one HUGE pot. Added with hot, steaming rice, I was ready to hoard my plate.

You would do the same.

Today I visited my great-grandmother and grandmother. It's been especially nice to see my great-grandmother because I missed her a lot while I was a way in Columbus. And of course, as my title suggests--there was food involved in this reunion. Barbeque, to be exact. And strawberry cake! I did a good job of not stuffing my face a second time though. It's my goal to postpone the junior 15 as long as possible.

I have a few more days until I have to go back to school, so I'm counting on more free food!

My Fun Weekend (Not in Columbus)

Ok!
So I would say that I had a pretty decent weekend. As I had planned, I was able to hang out with my bff, Sarah this past weekend. It was a blast! Where I currently live, there is a nice outdoors shopping mall and Saturday there was a little art festival-like thingy. Although a lot of the jewelry, crafts, and other physical forms of expression were painfully overpriced, it was fun to walk around--unintenionally embarrasing Sarah along the way.

I'lll give you an idea of just how capable I am of making a friend blush and pretend not to be affiliated with me. Sarah and I were walking down the sidewalk and I saw the corniest painting of a pony that I had ever set eyes on in my life. I mean, it's the type of picture that your grandma would hang in her living room, above her plastic-covered couch. Without thinking, I exclaim to Sarah "Oh my god, look at that pony!", in the most unintentionally obnoxious voice I can very well imagine. And it didn't help that I just happen to be tone-deaf sometimes. I'm still working on that...

To sum up the rest of the weekend, I saw some shoes on sale, fell in love with them, purchased them, stuffed my face, went on facebook with Sarah and laughed at ourselves, attempted to watch Sense and Sensibility, went to a mall, went to church...and fun done!

But is it ever really?

Home: Reflection #1

Well, my role as an Orientation Leader officially ended on the 14th and on the 15th I moved out. Sigh.

Now that I'm home I've done a lot of reflecting. I still can't believe how fast the time went while I was working on campus. It seems like just yesterday that it was June 10th when I was escaping from a nearly empty, eerily quiet Smith Hall lugging my belongings full of hope and anticipation during the first day of training. Then there was camp Agape with the picture of Jesus circa 1978 in the foyer and the lingering smell of camp spirit from years past. I remember frantically practicing check-in (where the freshmen and their families get their binders, book vouchers, course offering bulletins, etc.) like it was open heart surgery. My groups of freshmen--unique each and every time---I miss them all.

And somewhere in the midst of all that were my friends--the other Orientation Leaders. I realize now more than EVER how much they made my experience working for First Year Experience such a memorable, wonderful one. Sophmore year was a really difficult for me, and unfortunately I know that I didn't hang out with as many friends as I could and should have. Yet being with all them-- either one on one, a small group, or all of them, reassures me that isolating myself is something of the past.

Now with that being said, you can imagine how frustrating it is to be home after having a fun filled summer in Columbus, but I'm holding on. I got to see some relatives. I did a bit of shopping. I'm also plan on seeing my best friend Sarah soon. And today one of the OLs, Janet, sent a text that made me smile. I guess there is still hope. :-D.

Two cookouts: Double The Pleasure, Double the Fun

Of course, ever since my job as an Orientation Leader started, it was been nonstop fun each and every day. This week was no exception. This week was my LAST week working with the incoming freshmen. And to top it all off, I went to not one but TWO cookouts, one hosted by Jenny Osborne and someone by the name of GORDON GEE. That's right, the one and only president of THE Ohio State University. Now how can a week get any better than that?

Unsurprisingly, the week went by very, very fast. I had two groups of freshmen, each for one and half days full of wonderfully awkward introductions, icebreakers, free Cane's coupons, and semi/self imposed humiliation during Orientation Night Live. Both groups were really great, which I am grateful for. The whole entire time I was doing everything that I usually do, but in the back on my mind I kept thinking "Is this really going to be over soon?". When I sang the Carmen OHIO with the freshmen one last time, it began to hit me have over it really was. I don't think it has sunk in fully, though since I am still working with the transfer students.

My sadness over my days of orientating quickly dwindling took a backseat when the weekend approached. On Friday, the Orientation leaders enjoyed the hospitality of Jenny Osborne’s family at her cookout. Not only did I show a smidge of pride at the snack table, I fooled myself into thinking that I could handle a hamburger and a hotdog. The next day I had the honor of being a guest at Pres. Gee's beautiful home. I was really excited to meet him because I have never done so before. The food was catered by University Catering so it was de--licious. My favorite part of the evening was the personal tour that Pres. Gee gave of his home--he has such good taste in heart. It also struck me how down to earth he was. He was so nice and friendly, I was so touched by this considering what he has gone through the past couple of weeks. It was truly inspiring.

Let's see if this week can top it. ;-D.

Cedar Point! And Other Random Things...

Let me start off by saying that I had an AMAZING time this weekend! Some time ago I mentioned that the OL staff and I were going to Cedar Point, so I was in northern Ohio this weekend. An hour after our staff meeting on Friday we rolled out of Morrill Tower and headed over to Mallory's home in Avon Lake.

Now the reason I say home instead of house is because that's exactly what it felt like to me. Mallory's parents were unbelievably hospitable and cool to talk to! That Friday night we had burgers, hot dogs, Italian baked chicken, cheesy potatoes, pasta salad, (pause) fresh fruit, and baked sweets. I was definitely pass the threshold of being comforably full--I kept eating and nearly passed out!

We set out for Cedar Point that morning--somehow sharing two bathrooms between 21 young adults turned out to be the disaster that I had imagined. I was personally so excited to go because I had not been to CP in over 8 years! Needless to say, I had blast. I rode maybe 6 roller coasters and got to hang out with most of the group. My personal favorite was the Marverick because I was screaming pretty much throughout the ride's entirety. The only complaint I had was that the food was so expensive! I walked inside Chic-Fil-A and walked out (one meal costed $10.29). Oh no. I ended up staying at Cedar Point till 10:00 pm.
Some of the staff went home Saturday night, but the rest of us stayed at Mallory's another night. There was a treasure hunt (which I slept through) and a big breakfast (which I did not sleep through). On the way home from Mallory's, Mal stopped by her grandparents' home and I got to see the beautiful Lake Erie and their cozy house.

Can your weekend top that?!

Another Sunday Entry

I decided just now that I wanted to write another entry about my weekend because I had so much more to write and the last entry was an epic of itself. Thus far, my weekends have been AWESOME. Before the summer time I never had such a weekend schedule jammed packed with things do with different people and I am relishing it.

Since it was Fourth of July this weekend, it was especially eventful. Yesterday there was a cookout at Suzanne's parents' cozy home. We pretty much stuffed ourselves with burgers, lime tortilla chips and Dairy Queen ice cream cake. We also had a rousing game of Scattergories (which I had never played before). I realized that I didn't know as many words centering on appliances starting with the letter A as I thought. Then we walked to a park to see the fireworks, which were pretty great (although I was kind of concerned to see so many babies there--those fireworks were so loud!). We headed back to her place and talked for a while before going home.

Today I went to a cookout at Beekman Park that was hosted by a church that one of my OL buddies, Stacy. I had gone to MarketPlace shortly beforehand but that didn't deter me from helping myself to a hot dog, and 1.5 (yes, 1.5) hamburgers. Delicious! I met a lot of cool people and I had fun watching all people play kickball. It was a fun way to end to weekend.

Next weekend we're going to a Drive-In and I believe the following week we're going to Cedarpoint!

...And I'm Back

So....I would say that it's been awhile. I guess it's not surprising. I have been soooo busy since school has been out for the summer! Let me recap.

Basically I was stuck in my hall for two extra days BY MYSELF on my floor. It was beyond creepy. That following Monday I had my first day of Orientation Leader training. We spent some time on campus, then we ventured off to a place called 'Camp Agape' for the night, with a really big hill and a picture of Jesus in the foyer (but I digress). It was amazing. Tuesday my boyfriend helped me move my stuff out of Smith and I moved into Morrill Tower, where I am currently residing.

The Orientation Leaders trained for about two weeks before we actually got students. It went by so fast! There was so much information thrown at me all at once, that a part of me felt like I was NEVER going to get it (I guess that's why I sympathize with the incoming freshmen). Luckily my coworkers were there to help me process everything that I needed to know. Besides learning together, the rest of the OLs and I had such a great time just hanging out.

It's been three weeks since my first orientation, and let me just say, it has been AMAZING! My first group experience was kind of rusty, only because I was thinking oh my God, oh my God! pretty much the entire time. Now when I think about it, I am so shocked how everything came together. While I was training, it was a bit frustrating at times when things didn't make sense. During those times I really questioned whether or not I really belonged with the rest of the OLs (sad, I know). But I know now without a doubt that I meant to be here and I am so excited about being a part of such a wonderful experience with the freshmen, their families, and my staff.

Studying is Fun!

Today I woke up (fancy that on a Sunday afternoon), took another nap (yeah I said it), ate, and did all the other things on my boring list of mundane tasks. Jess, your probably thinking right now while eating cheezy poofs, didn't you know that it's the weekend before finals? Shouldn't have you been studying? Well, I didn't mention that because it wasn't on my boring list today, but on my fun list. Following me?

Don't get me wrong, I will run the risk of getting a funny look to say that I like to study--when the conditions are right. But let's face it, it can be really, really hard to do that during spring quarter. You'd rather be outside flying a kite or seeing a movie, or just lying on the cool grass, basking in the glory of the heavens above. That's why sometimes you've got to give studying an extra kick to make it interesting.

I made in my Stats 135 (which you should always do for all of your classes, trust me), and today we went to a coffee shop off campus to study, to get away from familiar surroundings. Maybe it was the smell of caramel frappacino or the taste of my strawberry rose ice cream, but I enjoyed studying stats. It was nice having someone to work with and keep you focused.

Because A TV Never Helps

I know I have said this before, but I have A LOT of stuff to do this weekend. As a college student, more than likely you will have those weeks where it just seems as if time more like your enemy than your friend. Because the quarter (and the academic year) is coming to end, there is so many loose ends to wrap up and things to accomplish, exams, friends to catch up with, and good old procrastination to reflect on it all.

This week I have my Orientation meeting (with a quiz), a RA staff meeting, a 7 page paper due thursday and a 4 page paper due Wednesday---and I must admit that it's kind of stressing me out. Although it's somewhat exhilarating to work under pressure, at the same time I could stand to be a little bored now and again. All well, such is college life sometimes.

Meanwhile, this pretty much means that I have to shut out the outside world, which is no easy feat, let me tell you. On any given day, there is always something to do on campus. And it also means no tv. Because we all know tv really isn't conducive to studying effectively, as much as we tried to deny it.

Sibs Weekend

So this weekend was Sibs Weekend and there were a lot of activities for entertainment. I didn't go to all of them, but I did attend two because a number of my RA staff members were involved in either the Sibs carnival or the RPAC Luau.

I walked past the carnival Saturday night on my way to visit my boyfriend and there were a lot of things going on! There were inflatables, balloon animals (and Brutus the Buckeye, how cool is that?!) and carnival food like popcorn. It was weird to see the court, which is usually filled with sweaty people chasing an orange ball populated with students and their kin excited as if they were witnessing the Cirque Du Soleil--what a magical transformation!

My boyfriend and I also went to support the Luau at the RPAC Friday night. Every Friday, the RPAC hosts a university-wide program for students to enjoy, free of charge. Some of my staff members put together the luau as something that the people of all ages could enjoy. We when got there, we were shocked as to how many people we saw! There were kids in the pool, near the pool, in the food area, near the drinks with family or friends. I could barely hear the DJ over the kids splashing and screaming with glee.

Unfortunately my little brother couldn't make it this weekend like we had planned. Because my room had limited spacing for a 6'5'', 200 lb. male and myself, my brother was going to stay with my boyfriend in his triple (which he actually cleaned for the occasion). I was really looking forward to it because since college life gets so busy sometimes, it can be challenging to keep in touch with people back home. My brother is planning to come up later this month, so hopefully that will work out!

Images of You Recap

So, I think I mentioned before how I was involved for Images of You. Images of You is an university-wide event that focuses on educating students about different issues and topics concerning diversity. A lot of RA candidates participate in this event, since being an RA means coming into contact with a diverse body of students.

Last year I was a part of Images of You and really enjoyed it. When my hall director mentioned possible involvement, I jumped on the opportunity to put on a session for this conference. One idea really popped out in my mind: interracial dating (I am currently in one). My staff members really liked the idea and so did Images of You. When one of the chairs for the event told me that my proposal had been accepted, I felt that I was on top of the world.

Well, that is, until reality pushed me off. I was so busy during that time period! My boyfriend, who was my partner, was dealing with homework--whereas my extracurricular obligations were really taking up time that I wanted to use for researching. That was not fun at all!

But I am so glad that I did this with my boyfriend! We had some technological difficulties before we started our presentation (which made me a little frazzled), but we pulled it together. I read some of the comments and they really liked it too. Chris and I are considering doing this next year too.

April 20, 2008

Sigh...

I know I should be used to this by now...but I am rather disappointed that I am not able to be outside and play in the warm weather. Instead I am inside studying for an exam and doing other stuff (and all the while trying to maintain a sense of sanity). You know those weeks where you procrastinate just a little too much and you end up paying for it? Well, I definitely had a week exactly like that.

Spring quarter can be the most challenging quarter for people because it's just so simple just to drop everything and frolic in the oval. I haven't done too much of that, but it's been hard for me to focus. That's why I am really excited about the program that my RA shadows and I are putting on, since a lot of people may have trouble staying on top of school work because there's so much to do during springtime.

My goal this week is to stay focused and get back in to the swing of things. I'll let you know how my week goes! :D.
