The Fishbowl

Now that I know that I'm going to be a new RA, life seems to have changed for me here at OSU. Don't get me wrong, I'm still the same girl with a lot of the same old habits. For example, I still don't pay attention walking signals while crossing Neil Ave (I'm ashamed of this habit, but what can I say? Sometimes a girl has to bend the rules to get to class on time!) But just knowing that next year that I'm going to impact hall residents in such a big way has put what I say, what I do, basically who I am and want to be, in perspective.

This is good because during my first staff meeting last Sunday, my hall director mentioned that the FISHBOWL starts now. What is the fishbowl concept, you ask? Basically it means that although no one is controlling your swimming--ahem--actions, the fact is that everyone's watching you. I'm not too scared about it honestly. I love opportunities to be a good role model, not when people are looking but when they're not either. Being a college student can be challenging in that there's so many different people with different agendas. That's just a fact of life. BUT at some point I realized that, hey I've got to be me and no one else. Luckily, there's so many things here that help me do just that, from lectures to the people I interact with. Because of OSU's vastness, I don't think the fishbowl will inhibit me at all. If anything, it's just a great way of reminding of how powerful a impact I can make on others and how valuable it is.
