Working Outside the Bun
Today was my third day on the J-O-B, and to be honest, I wasn't looking forward to that shift before it started. Why you ask? Well, the last two experiences were quite frustrating. Half the time I felt like I didn't know what I was doing, like my brain couldn't function with what seemed to be the simplest of tasks. And since I was surrounded by people who had worked at this Taco Bell for years, I was still "new", therefore it felt a little hard to permeate their already established bonds.
But somehow, today was different! I really felt that I had improved since the last few days. I understood certain protocols better and I was moving faster than before. I was laughing with my crew members and I didn't feel so intimidated with them or my tasks. I even prepped orders for the Drive-Thru, which meant that I had to wear a headset (our customers have interesting ways of ordering food sometimes). And I had free Taco Bell before my shift, and who can really complain with that!
Well....ok. It's not that hard to complain. Working lots of hours is great, but standing on my feet during those long hours are not. And at the end of my shift it looks like I belong in a muesem with my Picasso-esque taco meat and bean painting on my shirt (I can't help that I'm a natural artiste). Buuuut, there is a price to pay for "thinking outside of the bun".
Thank God for the value menu.
